Please help me find quiet beaches for UK holiday in the summer holiday

I'm getting stuck and hoping for some inspiration/help. My daughter is autistic and hates busy places but loves going to the beach. Every year we go on a UK cottage beach holiday near Norfolk, but we are keen to try somewhere different as my other children are getting bored of this.
Any suggestions of nice quiet beaches somewhere that is nice for a holiday. We have to go in August so many places are v busy. We live in Milton Keynes and don't want to travel more than 3/4 hours ideally. Thanks for any suggestions 😊.

You really need to come to Northumberland

Cassepoia · 27/11/2023 21:08

Some of the beaches in the Gower

RedSuedePump · 27/11/2023 21:09

agree on Northumberland - also Anglesey has some gorgeous beaches!

WarningOfGails · 27/11/2023 21:13

How much walking are you willing to do to reach a beach?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/11/2023 21:14

I was also going to sugguest Northumberland ! I think if you want a quiet beach in August, you're going to have to go further away from MK than 3-4 hours. If you go to Scotland in the second half of August, schools are already back.

MojoDojoCasaHouse · 27/11/2023 21:15

Pembrokeshire’s beaches are so fabulous they made them into a national park. Lots of quiet beaches. Broadhaven is one of our favourites. My DH grew there and at Newgale beach.

LakieLady · 27/11/2023 21:20

Another vote for Northumberland: Embleton Bay and Low Newton are my favourites, but Bamburgh is stunning.

TheThingIsYeah · 27/11/2023 21:28

OP you could be on the most remote beach possible but I guarantee within 5 mins of that windbreak going up some family will plonk themselves down right beside you!

ispendmytimecompletingforms · 27/11/2023 21:29

Thanks for ideas. Northumberland sounds lovely but we love to swim - will it be a bit chilly?
Pembrokeshire sounds good and I was wondering about Gower are there any particularly good beaches?

Scotland would be perfect but much too far to travel unfortunately. DD couldn't cope with flying at the moment unfortunately.

I'm assuming Dorset, Kent, Suffolk would be too busy or are there any hidden gems?

The gower is beautiful and never crazy busy. Rhosili, caswell bay, pembrey national park, llanstefan.

Trickleg · 27/11/2023 21:31

Northumberland! Beadnell Beach. Miles of sand with no one on it. And a little stall selling lovely food.

SaffyWall · 27/11/2023 21:36

Filey, in North Yorkshire. It can get very busy near the town but there's about four miles of beach and you can always find some space if you walk a little.

ispendmytimecompletingforms · 27/11/2023 21:37

@TheThingIsYeah that is true 🤣.
Last year a family decided to set up a cricket match right next to where we were sat! DD was beside herself and we had to leave. 😭

How about East Sussex op?
about 3.5 hours from you, beautiful quiet beaches at Winchelsea, Pett and lovely medieval town of Rye..

NeedToChangeName · 27/11/2023 21:40

Another vote for Northumberland. Alnmouth is a small village on the coast, with a train station and lovely quiet beaches

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 27/11/2023 21:40

Northumberland again! Should be fine to swim, there's some great local surf schools there as well.

ispendmytimecompletingforms · 27/11/2023 21:42

@squirrelnutkin10 that sounds good. I will investigate I have been to Rye years ago - it was lovely. I thought the beaches would be too busy near there.

Hayle in Cornwall. The beach is 3 miles long, so as long as you don't choose the bits immediately in front of holiday accommodation, it is quiet. There are few day trippers as there's no parking at the beach - you have to walk across the towans (heath land) to get there.

Avatartar · 27/11/2023 21:49

Re North Sea - You can pick up a cheap shortie wetsuit on eBay ( would DD wear one?) Some brands often have good sales circa £30

jeaux90 · 27/11/2023 21:57

Woolacombe it's a massive long beach. The far end is quiet and the sea in the summer is usually a lovely temperature.

The only I would say anywhere like this though in the summer is that lifeguarded beaches will keep swimmers between flags. So naturally keeping everyone in a specific area whilst swimming.

DoggyDooDooDoo · 28/11/2023 06:35

I'm amazed to see people suggesting Caswell Bay as quiet, I've been a few times and on a sunny day it's always rammo!

The Surfability surf club is based there though and that's an amazing opportunity for kids with additional needs.

HelenaJustina · 28/11/2023 06:38

We went to Pembrokeshire this summer, and other than Tenby it was gloriously quiet. Stunningly beautiful beaches, DC had a great time body boarding, canoeing and coasteering.

mumonthehill · 28/11/2023 06:39

I agree the Gower gets very busy in August! Pembrokeshire quieter especially around St Davids or up to Cardigan but absolutely avoid Tenby as that is very busy in the summer.

Airdustmoon · 28/11/2023 06:47

The Isle of Wight! Beautiful beaches and it’s lovely and quiet compared to somewhere like Cornwall. We go every year and my DS says it feels like going abroad because you have to go on a ferry!

Callmecordelia · 28/11/2023 06:50

I live in a touristy coastal town, and the beach is lovely and quiet at off peak times. If you are willing to get up and go early, or in the evening it's fine. If you only want to go between 10:30 and 4 it will be rammed.

However it's like a different place at 8am, quiet and beautiful. Maybe a yoga class, but I can handle that... You could be restricting yourself geographically, but if you restricted yourself on time you could go to more places iyswim.
