My daughteelr was born on 1st September and will be turning 4 next September so will she going to be going reception next year or the year after? I don't know what the cut of day is?

The following year, when she turns five. That'll be reception class.

Smleps · 27/11/2023 18:54

The following year. 31st August is the cut off birthday.

flowerygloves · 27/11/2023 18:54

Yes when she's five. She'll be the oldest in the year

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/11/2023 18:55

The cut off is 31st of August. So if she turns 4 next September 1st she’ll start reception the following year - 2025. If she’d been born 31st August she’d start next year.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/11/2023 18:55

Cut off is 31st August.

She's going to be the oldest in her class - so best have a good party planned, as hers will likely be the first of the year!

The school year in England runs Sep 1 to Aug 31 and you start in the year you turn 5. So if she was born September 2020 she’ll start reception in September 2025. Same as my DS who was born February 2021.

If you're in England then she'll start in September 2025. Not sure about elsewhere.

UsingChangeofName · 27/11/2023 22:25

Yes, 2025 if you are in England or Wales.
Scotland is different, sorry, not sure about NI.

She will be oldest in the year unless there are any deferred children

In my part of Wales, there are 3 intakes a year so if she were here, she'd start school after Christmas but would then continue in Reception from the following September - effectively having 1 year + 2 terms in YR.
