Break up.. difficulty sleeping alone

Me and my ex have just broken up and he moved out this weekend. We have two daughters together 6 and 3 and they’re already asking when daddy will be home which is breaking my heart. (we did have a sit down discussion with them to tell them we will no longer be living together etc)

im finding it so difficult at night once the girls are in bed sleeping alone after he’s been by my side for almost 9 years.

someone tell me this gets easier😞

Oh bless you, the early days and nights are the worst

You need to be strong and plan for evenings and night, don't brood

Have you got a heat pack or hot water bottle? That'll be comforting

OP, absolutely gets easier.

My ex left just over a year ago. Didn’t think I’d ever get used to sleeping alone. I’m now in a new relationship and sometimes I’m like “ahhh can’t wait to get this bed back to myself”

It’s the old cliche of time time and more time.

you will get there.

I watched box sets of The Waltons and The Simpsons after my break up (depended if one or both kids were in bed with me!) and it was a sort of comfort thing and distraction as I set a timer and often fell asleep with the tv on… yes it was bloody hard but yes it gets better and life gets better too than being in a relationship that’s not right for you.

Pillow beside you

Hot water bottle you cling to. Or a pet. Or the DC! I've been there and it's hard and so alien but it will get better

Createausername1970 · 26/11/2023 19:59

It does get better, but I am sorry you are going through it.

I used to wrap myself up in the duvet like a sausage roll. I would also leave the radio on quietly, so if I woke up it wasn't totally silent.

I also slept with the tv on, it definitely does get better although takes awhile but you’ll soon find you love the space and will be quite displeased if you have to share it again Grin I also let the dogs join me which I’m now regretting with a baby on the way and a new dp who doesn’t appreciate having furry little hot water bottles in bed with us so don’t be tempted to go down that route if you can avoid it!

You'll get to the point where you enjoy having the bed to yourself, I promise! Although I still sleep at my side of the bed, not in the middle 😅

I also started sleeping with two duvets as I ended up finding great comfort in cuddling the duvet so got a single one specifically for that purpose so I could still be wrapped nicely in mine 🤣

I’m in a king size and I’m exactly the same. It’s funny that.
