My sister is currently going through a rotten divorce.

her ex dh who before I did like is acting like an absolute arse (hiding moneh, being a fucj about access etc).

her words today sort of got to me “it always ends up like this”.

is divorce always so brutal?

Not in my experience.

I’m not divorced but a number of my friends are and I’d say on the whole they’ve all been as amicable as you can expect.

I’m not aware of any that have been horrible and messy. Obviously, that’s not to say some divorces aren’t like that.

My divorce was civil ( even though he cheated).
We were able to agree on financed and not get into petty disagreements.

My divorce was pretty amicable, we managed to agree financial and child arrangements without lawyers.

My divorce was a breeze- we have kids and he went above and beyond to put their long term future first. We get on well.

My partner was married to someone where it got more complicated but eventually got it over the line to an outcome that feels relatively fair to both.

So no, it's not always like that.

Not always. Mine is amicable even though we don't always get on. We've not even got solicitors involved and are sorting everything ourselves. We're both walking away with our own assets/debts, I'm buying his share of the house off him and we've agreed a 50:50 coparenting split that we're both happy with.

Mine was ok as we had no money to argue about. Was back in 1999 so no equity in house etc of any significance.
