To ask people to Google before stating a thread?

I love getting advice from Mumsnet, but TWO threads about airfryers in Active??

To add to all the rest of them....

Just please Google what you are interested in and add "Mumsnet". It works. I've done it for years. Saves you starting a new thread and clogging up the internet. Thanks.

According so techy experts I work with, the Internet isn't actually limitless which is going to cause a problem at some point...

I doubt a couple of extra threads about air fryers on mumsnets is going to make a difference though.

"Drop" and "ocean" come to mind.

What would unclutter the Internet more is to delete all those old emails dating back to 1999 in various email accounts.

@sushiburger 9am - 4pm busy time 2pm. You're welcome

Redskyatwhatever · 26/11/2023 01:36

Maybe we should ask the question what uses up more of the precious internet? A second thread about air fryers when there is a perfectly good thread already, or a third thread complaining about the second thread? Answered on a postcard please to save the dwindling internet.

yetanotherdaytoday · 26/11/2023 01:41

YABU. Totally U.

Mumsnet is a chat forum, not an encylopedia

People ask about air fryers because the don't just want the info, they want to have a chat about air fryers.

Don't want to chat about air fryers? Scroll on by. Simple.

coxesorangepippin · 26/11/2023 01:49

No way will I ever do that

At least because you've told me not to!

Gymnopedie · 26/11/2023 02:18

OP I shall singlehandedly save the internet by promising never to start a thread about airfryers on MN.

OP did you google to find out if it’s effective to ask people to google before posting?

You’re on a very large but losing team!

coveredindoghairs · 26/11/2023 03:08

YABU. If you don't want to answer those types of threads, it's easy to ignore them and keep scrolling. Others will be happy to take on the burden.

SamphireAndSalmon · 26/11/2023 04:38

Timeforallthecheese · 25/11/2023 21:58

People can ask what they want when they want. If you don’t want to read it or find it repetitive, scroll past or hide the post. You can’t dictate what people can and cannot do. It’s an open forum.

They can also comment on amy thread. And sometimes challenge the op on what they've said. Who knew🤷🏻‍♀️

avemariiiiiaaaa · 26/11/2023 04:58

Can I ask you to mind your own business and not police the active threads?

It has never occurred to me to whinge about a topic I'm not interested in appearing on active.

I either open the door thread, shrug and close it again, or just scroll past. It's that easy.

avemariiiiiaaaa · 26/11/2023 05:00

Open the thread*

No idea where door came from

Is the internet going to run out of space? 😱😱😱

I predict that there will be rationing by the end of the decade, with a ceiling of 20 posts on Mumsnet per day and four hours a week on Amazon.

Lougle · 26/11/2023 05:27

Now, back in the old days, Active Conversations would suddenly be full of threads asking 'Which air fryer to buy?', 'Are air fryers worth the money?', 'What are your best air fryer recipes?', 'Should I buy a single or double basket air fryer?'.... 😁

Tbh I think MNHQ are quite happy for people to start new threads. They say there are only 7 real story plots. It's probably true that there are only about 50 true thread themes.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 26/11/2023 06:14

Next time someone posts, eg, 'should i leave my DH', or 'Friend has copied my DC's name' or 'AIBU about bridesmaid' I am going to tell them to 'FGS google it and add the word mumsnet', since I understand there is at least one thread on each of those already.
Just think what we could do with all the lovely white space. Make hankies or something.

squashi · 26/11/2023 06:19

Jesus Christ. Just ignore threads you're not interested in.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 26/11/2023 06:23

Ironically, there have been fifty squillion threads over the years on this same theme. The OP should have googled 'google before starting a thread' and added the word mumsnet. Then she would have known. Tsk.

sushiburger · 26/11/2023 06:24

Gymnopedie · 26/11/2023 02:18

Ah see I'm quite tempted to start a thread on airfryers to see if that breaks the internet

sushiburger · 26/11/2023 06:25

neilyoungismyhero · 26/11/2023 01:21

@sushiburger 9am - 4pm busy time 2pm. You're welcome

Ooh even more accurate info.

Tlolljs · 26/11/2023 06:29

Yeah but what air fryer should I buy?

GoodOldEmmaNess · 26/11/2023 06:32

I've seen 'airfryer' and 'air fryer' on this thread. Think I'll start a new thread to ask which is more correct. Or perhaps two, one for each spelling.

googledidnthelp · 26/11/2023 06:35

Just here to say my name is long established so don't come after me for clogging up the internet for the threads I've started!

Maxus · 26/11/2023 06:44

Why would you do that if you want people to reply? If a zombie thread pops up I look at the date then give up on it. Just start a new thread.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 26/11/2023 08:19

🚨 INTERNET FULL 🚨

Please come back in 24 hours to resume.

🚨 INTERNET FULL 🚨

AnOldCynic · 26/11/2023 08:33

Loving the indignant replies! How dare she.

Anyway, at ease, and thanks for the humorous replies (even if they do clog up the internet).
