To think I shouldn’t have to stop my run to walk past a horse?

Famousperson2023 · 25/11/2023 05:44

This has happened twice now. Out for a run and the horse riders have asked me to stop running while I go past their horse!!

I’ll put this in context- daughter rides, I used to ride. When passing a horse or pony I’ll go wide and slow, or stop and wait at a passing place on narrow roads (often while the riders amble up at a slow walk deep in conversation with their fellow riders, 3 abreast….and without a hint of thank you). When I’m out with our dog I’ll make sure she is on the lead while we pass. but being asked to stop and walk???

I didn’t say it was illegal, I said it was primitive, selfish and disgusting, which it is.

Surely all poo is “primitive”? 😂😂

I’ve edited this post Snowflakeslayer as I have just read that you live in a rural village.

You do know that where you find animals, as in working farms and riding stables, there will inevitably be shit? And that shit is a normal part of country life?

@Sayitaintso33 it is perfectly legal not to pick up horse droppings. It is not hazardous in any way.

But why isn't it seen as littering?

Paper isn't hazardous in any way, but if I dropped it I would be littering.

Perhaps I'm not liable for what my horse does, but if he kicked you wouldn't I have to compensate you? If so, why aren't I legally responsible for his mess?

Presumably you think we need a task force to go around fining birds for having the audacity to shit without consequence either?

OP is going wide and low so she IS giving them 2m space!

The attitude from riders on this thread is akin to SUV drivers in cities to smaller cars “I am bigger than you so you have to give me way”.

Edited

Exactly. Many of them probably are SUV drivers as well.

Snowflakeslayer · 27/11/2023 11:01

Doesn’t mean it’s right? It’s selfish to leave it on the road. It’s illegal for dogs to do it but this is ok? It’s nonsense to suggest it’s ok.

It is not seen as littering because a coke can, polystyrene food tray, or plastic bag are all made of synthetic materials that are an eyesore and take a long time to break down and dissipate.

Horse poo on the other hand blends in to the environment, is fairly inoffensive in that it doesn’t smell like dog shit and doesn’t carry disease, and is literally digested grass that breaks down quickly and actually enriches the environment.

Snowflakeslayer · 27/11/2023 11:03

Seems to be a common opinion actually, apart from maybe the 1 or 2 entitled selfish horse riders, thankfully most of them keep off the roads, which is what I would do if I was a horse lover, and not subject them to the stress of a busy road. But we can’t all be kind and considerate, thankfully the majority are, which is lovely.

Not exactly at all, if you follow the thread?

This thread is getting beyond surreal.

Homebaby · 27/11/2023 11:04

@Sayitaintso33 if your horse kicked me that would cause me damage, if you didn't pick up your horses droppings it wouldn't.
Should your horse kick me it would depend on the circumstances as to whether you legally would need to compensate me. If you were deemed negligent in not having your horse under sufficient control and the accident was avoidable from your end yes you would. However, if I was deemed to have put myself in a position of risk and the accident was avoidable from my end then no you wouldn't.
An increasing number of riders are now wearing hat cams when riding because of this.

Dog poo is harmful to humans.

Horse poo is not.

HTH.

You in a post called people ‘disgusting filth’ so I am not sure you are as kind as you think.

Dogs fall under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, which superseded the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, under which dog control orders can be made.

Horses and other livestock are not covered by these laws.

If you think they should be, you need to get campaigning.

Viviennemary · 25/11/2023 06:49

It's cheeky. They think they take priority over everybody else on the road. They should be banned from public roads.

You do realise don't you that horses were on the road well before cars and people jogging...

Hilarious @Snowflakeslayer The way you've spoken to people on this thread is hardly " "kind and considerate"
😂

Lots and lots of people on here saying a runner should show compromise. Endless in fact.

And frankly not many at all complaining about horse manure. That seems to be your specialist subject.

Snowflakeslayer · 27/11/2023 11:32

Actually, the complete opposite is the case, I’m talking about people should be more considerate. How did you not pick that up, maybe the same way you don’t think shit should be picked up? I’m out of here, like talking to children.

Did you do science at school?

you know dog poo and horse poo are different don't you?

There is only one person talking nonsense here. 😂

Snowflakeslayer · 27/11/2023 11:34

I know the law thanks. Doesn’t mean people shouldn't be more considerate. Stoning is legal in some places, doesn’t mean you should still do it. What a ridiculous thing to say.

Birds are wild animals.

Your horse is yours.

Completely different.

(Full disclosure: It doesn't bother me that horse owners aren't responsible for clearing up their horses' shit. But it's hardly the same as what a wild animal is doing.)
