Is this beef safe?

Bought it last Monday, put it in the freezer to take out and cook in the slow cooker today. Had a power cut on Wednesday morning, back on the next day. Freezer part was completely frozen over, took beef out today to thaw, change of plans and no time to cook so put it in the fridge. Out tomorrow so can’t have it for dinner then, would it be safe to cook for Sunday or just chuck it out? Reluctant as quite expensive at almost €10 for nice beef in chunks

It will be fine.

Kleptronic · 24/11/2023 22:03

Yes it will be fine. You only bought it on Monday and it defrosted today, is in the fridge, it is beef chunks, it will be fine.

tillytoodles1 · 24/11/2023 22:04

Smell it. If it smells OK then cook it, otherwise throw it away

Mumaway · 24/11/2023 22:05

If you can cook it today it will be even safer, and just reheat sunday

Goggleboxonthebox · 24/11/2023 22:06

@Kleptronic But it had a whole day and a half of power cut

If it was frozen it was frozen, and if it was in the freezer and frozen solid when the power cut happened (which it sounds as if was the case) then um, it doesn't KNOW there was a powercut... A well stocked freezer full of frozen stuff does not defrost quickly during a power cut if the freezer is not opened!

took beef out today to thaw, change of plans and no time to cook so put it in the fridge. this is the part that would concern me. Where did you leave it to thaw? What temperature was it?

Goggleboxonthebox · 24/11/2023 22:23

@sushiburger Well my plan was to have it today and it was frozen solid, so in the morning I put it in water, then changed my mind and put it in the fridge in the afternoon 😬this is what I mean, I’m not sure

Well I'd still eat it water or no :)

category12 · 24/11/2023 22:55

You thawed it, it's now in the fridge - should be fine.

Bobbybobbins · 24/11/2023 23:01

Yes fine- beef is pretty good at lasting. You'll be able to smell if it is off.
