To not think this weight loss is possible

To go from 16 stone to 7 stone in three and half months?

Not unless you lose a limb or two.

SkySecret · 24/11/2023 21:26

What kind of weight loss? Chopping off limbs?

No, it’s not possible to burn that much fat in 3 months. You’re looking at about half a stone a month max. You need to burn an excess of around 3,500 calories for every pound of fat lost.

I once tried to work out how much you’d burn even by not eating anything (and no exercise as you’d have no energy!) and it still came out at around half a stone a month.

Notwithstanding that at that sort of weight the scales will show more than half a stone a month loss at first due to loss of water being held in fat cells. But that’s not true fat loss and won’t continue at that rate.

Itsmehi222 · 24/11/2023 21:26

That’s not going to happen x

gamerchick · 24/11/2023 21:28

Fast track to gallstones anyway.

DodoTime · 24/11/2023 21:31

I obviously don't know your height or build but 7 stone seems like it would be close to underweight for a lot of people. 1 to 2 pounds a week is sustainable weight loss for most people, you could probably lose more but not in a healthy way. As someone who's been 16 stone and lost weight, I felt great at 12 stone.

AhBiscuits · 24/11/2023 21:33

No it isn't possible. What's the context?

MiniCooperLover · 24/11/2023 21:33

This can't be genuine surely?

110APiccadilly · 24/11/2023 21:35

Is the context that this has supposedly happened to someone, or is someone trying to do it?

Because if the first, I think they should see a doctor. If the second then, no, I don't think you could.

Crooklodge · 24/11/2023 21:36

I weighed 7 stone when my dd was a baby as I had no money, ate once or twice a week at most(by eating I mean 10p space raiders etc) I weighed 8st 3ish before and lost the weight very rapidly after birth, dd was in any 3 weeks 1 day, by that time I was stick thin.

Jewelspun · 24/11/2023 21:36

Depending on your age and if you were able to hire a dietician and personal trainer and stick to their plan and not have any distractions other than your exercise and food plan then I reckon you could lose four stone in that timeframe but you would need to be closely supervised and spend the money to make it happen.

You do run the risk of having excess skin when losing a lot of weight in a short time.

A far more healthy and realistic plan would be to set yourself a goal of losing half a stone per month.

theduchessofspork · 24/11/2023 21:37

Only if it’s by dumping your partner

No half decent dietician or trainer would get involved in a plan to loose 4 stone in 3 months.

rasellagirl · 24/11/2023 21:49

Not possible

FrenchandSaunders · 24/11/2023 21:51

WTF madness

uhOhOP · 24/11/2023 21:54

You'd need a weekly calorie deficit of more than 31,000 (4,500 per day) for each of 14 weeks.

Fawbs89 · 24/11/2023 21:55

I'm 5ft 7 and weigh 16 stone I hold a lot on my thighs and bum!

The smallest I have ever been is 10 stone and that took a lot of work! I was around a size 10 and I looked really slim.

You'll be anorexic at 7 stone!!

HironsBirons · 24/11/2023 22:00

This sounds like what my fertility consultant advised me to do to be eligible for IVF treatment

jhy · 24/11/2023 22:05

16 stone to 7 stone? Of course it's not realistic or possible to lose over half your body weight in 3 months. Unless you are severely ill.

Edited

So you'd just need to eat nothing and run a marathon each day? Easy.

Silvers11 · 24/11/2023 22:23

@Ireallynothappy78 Even If you went on a very low calorie diet ( soups shakes and bars with all the appropriate minerals and vitamins in them - there are a number out there) your total weight loss wouldn't be anywhere close to the 9 stone you want to lose. They expect you to lose an average of 1 stone a month. Some people lose a bit more and some less, but not a cat's hope in hell someone could lose 9 stone in 3 and a half months!!

I'm not commenting on that type of diet, whether good or bad, just stating that for info. If you were very, very, ill I doubt you could lose that much in that time

Jewelspun · 24/11/2023 22:24

@theduchessofspork there are unethical people around that will do anything.

My post was to say it was probably possible to lose around four stone in that time frame, not that you should.

That's why I suggested aiming for half a stone a month.
