How much pizza?

Party for 4 year olds. 15 children and I'm not sure how many adults - could potentially be 30 if both sets of parents for each child come. Plus a few of my (adult) family.
We've got crudités & dips, plus crisps and a few snack things but the main food is going to be pizza.
We're doing food for everyone - grown ups included. I don't think we have enough, my husband does.
3 vegan / gluten free pizzas and 10 normal ones.
I think I should buy more pizzas - AIBU?

Would definitely buy more but then my DH and DS eat one each 😂

FiveGoldDoughnutRings · 24/11/2023 17:47

How big are the pizzas?

Normal shop size ones.

i reckon each adult can have at least 2 slices or half a pizza… that would be 15 only for adults. So i think you need loads more!!

That's what I said! How many more?

My husband's argument is that as it's a children's party, the adults will be polite and only nibble. But we've told them we're catering for them so I think it's rude to then not offer enough.

The trouble with loads of pizzas is how to cook them all! Have the adults been told they're being catered for? I'd never assume it

Torganer · 24/11/2023 17:51

At least 23 pizzas if everyone comes.

Yes.
The hall has a large oven and I can cook 3 at a time. I don't think they'll end up being particularly warm though. ☹️

4 year olds at parties dont each much. I think a slice each is enough for them.

Adults at parties chomp through half a pizza.

Melawati · 24/11/2023 17:53

I would have something you can serve cold as well as the pizza, rather than buying more. It’s very quick to do some sandwiches.

FiveGoldDoughnutRings · 24/11/2023 17:53

Quite a few adults will be too polite/fussy to eat much. Generally at children’s parties the food is offered to adults after the children have had enough. Lots of people don’t eat pizza or don’t want to risk something that children may have touched.

MangoPepsiLover · 24/11/2023 17:54

My 8 year old eats half a pizza by herself and has done since about the age of 5 so I'd definitely get 8 pizzas for the kids and then double that for adults.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 24/11/2023 17:56

A lot, like a lot a lot!
I'd probably go for one large per 4 people.

Candleabra · 24/11/2023 17:56

Oh that’s tricky. I’d say you have enough - just because I think the adults will hold back and just eat your leftovers. I’d be happy to get a slice of pizza at a kids party but wouldn’t turn up hungry. Next time just cater for the kids!

Mrgrinch · 24/11/2023 18:00

It's usually a rule of half a pizza per adult if there are also sides available. However I think it would be quite rude for the adults to eat large portions at a children's party, even if they are being catered for.

Pipistrellus · 24/11/2023 18:01

I'd probably order pizzas if I had to cook more than two ovenfulls.

Spendonsend · 24/11/2023 18:01

My half a pizza for adults is based in them expecting lunch.
I do agree that most will just eat whatever is left after the kids eat otherwise

Fleur405 · 24/11/2023 18:03

I mean I’m half Italian and I love pizza so maybe I’m not the best judge…. But that is NOWHERE NEAR enough pizza.

Trevorton · 24/11/2023 18:04

Would it be easier to order in from dominoes or similar, then they would be hot, you can order the large ones?

Haveallthesongsbeenwritten · 24/11/2023 18:04

i’d make sandwiches/wraps, things can be eaten cold

Teatrayderby · 24/11/2023 18:05

The pizza will have to be pretty cold for the kids anyway otherwise you're bound to get a child burning their mouths on it.

I would stagger the adult and kids food so the adults have food when they arrive and kids sit down half way through

DaisyDoor · 24/11/2023 18:05

I don’t think adults will eat much, but if you’re cooking them 3 at a time can you just stop cooking if it’s not getting eaten and freeze the spares. People always over-cater children’s parties.

I don't have the money for that. ☹️

You would need minimum 20 pizzas I'd say.

Are there definitely some vegan and/or gluten free people coming?

If you can afford it, get plenty more pizzas. Leftover pizza is the best!
