Evri shop collection- massive pile of stuff?

WhatapityWapiti · 24/11/2023 17:17

Just wanted to sense check this. Ordered something online and it was free to have delivered to my local Evri parcel shop, which is a convenience store about 5 mins walk away. I use it quite often to send stuff by Evri and always fine, machine prints label, guy scans item, no issues at all.

Went along to collect my parcel today and the shop assistant just said “parcels all in corner” and pointed me to the back of the shop. There was just a massive pile of stuff there, nothing organised and you had to pull each package out to read the label. I went back to the counter and asked for help and was told “it’s your responsibility to find your package”!

I had popped in on the way to school pickup and had to leave as I had no time to search through it all. Will need to go back and try again tomorrow.

Is this how Evri collections usually work?! No wonder it’s free…!

No, my local one (Factory Shop) are great. They're almost always understaffed but manage to go off and find my packages no problem! They must be a lot more organised than your bunch.

They have to scan the parcels out, don't they? Or are they making you do that part of their job as well??

WhatapityWapiti · 24/11/2023 17:22

I presume they were planning to scan it after I located it in the massive pile?

When I need to pick something up, it’s always been safe behind the counter. That sounds really dodgy.

Ihaterhymingrabbit · 24/11/2023 17:27

That is awful! But I find some of the corner shop type shops are a law unto themselves and you won’t always get the formal service you might expect from a post office or big name store like Asda or Tesco.

I personally avoid delivery to an Evri parcel shop as it feels like an inconvenience for them to get my parcel and I’ve also seen my parcel for drop off being chucked on a pile that customers had access too.

This isn’t all corner shops though just to add and I have had some great experiences too just tend to have these experiences in these shops and never in large ones.

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 24/11/2023 17:28

Gosh, you don't live in a small village in Kent do you?? This is exactly what my local Evri shop does - you root through a big pile, find your parcel and then they scan it at the counter. Found it bizarre at first, but used to it now.

That’s very poor and certainly hasn’t been my experience! I’d be really annoyed with that and, if possible, not use that parcel shop again! Anyone could just take anything surely?

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 24/11/2023 17:37

@WhatapityWapiti - ah, so there's at least two places doing it that way! 😂😂

AllAroundMyCat · 24/11/2023 17:37

The assistant was being lazy.
Random customers should not be rooting through a pile of parcels the people have paid for secure delivery.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 24/11/2023 17:37

They are always behind the counter at the parcel shops I use.

Eleganz · 24/11/2023 17:38

You should have taken a photo and sent it to Evri. Was there anything to stop you from walking off with a random parcel?

AllAroundMyCat · 24/11/2023 17:38

Just to add, the shop will have been paid for allowing parcels to be collected.

I know, right?

What happens if two people have a really common name, then? Is there a code which distinguishes one person‘s parcel from another? I’ve never collected from a parcel shop, but would assume just leaving them all in a pile someone could easily take the wrong one!

Might do when I go back. I suppose the parcels were as safe as any other item in the shop, in that they would stop you if you walked out without scanning one?

It wouldn’t match the code on your collection note, and you also have to show ID. It’s just the actual finding the thing that was completely chaotic and self service.

WhatapityWapiti · 24/11/2023 17:44

There were probably 150 packages there, in no order whatsoever.

Exactly the same at my local shop. Parcels all in a massive bin at the back of the shop and you have to get each one out and check if it’s yours then take it to the counter to be scanned once you’ve found yours. I pay the extra to get it delivered to home now. My Time is worth more than the 50p I save to collect it from the shop. It’s an utter ballache

WeFancyLike · 24/11/2023 17:46

Our local shop stores all the parcels behind the counter in a storage room. After a couple of occasions where they seemed to not be bothered to look for my parcel and them being returned to sender, I started having things delivered to my house.

This.

Take photos and report it. It's not safe or secure, and not the done way.

Overthehill123 · 24/11/2023 17:48

My local shop is exactly the same- the lady just pointed to a large box of parcels next to a fridge, it took me absolutely ages to find mine, it was a Vinted parcel so I wasn’t even sure what I was looking for packaging wise, it was bizarre.

FiveGoldDoughnutRings · 24/11/2023 17:50

That’s awful, anyone could nick anything they liked, definitely raise it will head office.

WhatapityWapiti · 24/11/2023 17:51

Yep, certainly won’t be using it again. The thing I ordered was £5 delivery to home or free to the shop, prob wouldn’t have ordered it at all if I’d had to pay an extra fiver.

Four. Both my locals are " sort through the pile" places. Little corner shops, not much space. I only use evri for secondhand bargains.

grumpypedestrian · 24/11/2023 17:52

I work in a Co Op doing Evri deliveries, so question if this is true. Every package has to have ID verified and scanned. You can’t just dump them in a corner.
