Evri shop collection- massive pile of stuff?

WhatapityWapiti · 24/11/2023 17:17

Just wanted to sense check this. Ordered something online and it was free to have delivered to my local Evri parcel shop, which is a convenience store about 5 mins walk away. I use it quite often to send stuff by Evri and always fine, machine prints label, guy scans item, no issues at all.

Went along to collect my parcel today and the shop assistant just said “parcels all in corner” and pointed me to the back of the shop. There was just a massive pile of stuff there, nothing organised and you had to pull each package out to read the label. I went back to the counter and asked for help and was told “it’s your responsibility to find your package”!

I had popped in on the way to school pickup and had to leave as I had no time to search through it all. Will need to go back and try again tomorrow.

Is this how Evri collections usually work?! No wonder it’s free…!

I work in a Co Op doing Evri deliveries, so question if this is true. Every package has to have ID verified and scanned. You can’t just dump them in a corner.

They get scanned THEN dumped in a corner to drop, reverse on the way out.

roseopose · 24/11/2023 17:54

My local shop has so many Evri parcels for people to collect that they've got a dedicated shelf by the counter with them all alphabetised by surname and they find it for you. Really poor to have to find it yourself and open to people nicking stuff if they're just left out.

grumpypedestrian · 24/11/2023 17:55

In that case it’s a huge risk and needs reporting. We scan ours in, keep behind the counter and customers come to us to collect.

Its a huge pain as we are under staffed and there’s little space in our small store (plus we have DPD).

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 24/11/2023 17:58

You can't nick the parcels any
more than you could nick anything else in our local shop. You have to walk back past the counter to get out and they will stop you for ID and to have the parcel scanned if you tried it, (as I did my first time - didn't realise it had to be checked and scanned Blush. Was v embarrassing).

Correct. In fact the dropping by the Evri delivery guy, scanning and chucking in the corner was happening when I arrived as it took the shop guy about 10 minutes to come back to the counter and serve the long line that had grown up while he did that.

I've picked up evri packages from quite a few different places, they've always been behind the counter/in the stockroom. I have an awkward surname so tbh it would probably be a lot faster for me to find my own but it doesn't sound very secure! If the shop assistant isn't watching what's to stop someone quickly shoving a small parcel up their jumper/under their pushchair or whatever then just taking their own to be scanned? Although I suppose it's a fairly high risk for low reward scenario as you could just end up with a second hand t shirt 10 sizes too small!

Edited

Yes, I think that is definitely a risk.

That’s awful, anyone could nick anything they liked, definitely raise it will head office.

They can't, you take it to be scanned and show ID.

renomeno · 24/11/2023 18:10

My local shop has them on a couple of shelves in the corner and depending on whose working/how busy it is they do sometimes ask you to look through yourself. But they can normally tell you which shelf is Vinted and which is EBay etc...

The drop off stuff is in a store room at the back and after they've scanned it they just tell you to add it to the enormous pile!

It’s 100% true. You root through the pile find your parcel and then take it to the counter with your ID for scanning before you’re allowed to leave with it at my local store

madeinmanc · 24/11/2023 18:14

Funny you posted this, I saw a similar situation for the first time yesterday. A huge pile of parcels in the main shop, not sure if for collection or if they'd been dropped off, but any customer could just potentially take one and walk off. No wonder my parcels have gone missing in the past, it all became clear!

grumpypedestrian · 24/11/2023 18:20

As a retail worker dealing with Evri and DPD deliveries I’m honestly amazed that shops get away with this. We try to organise ours into boxes (but it’s still a pain) and keep them securely behind the checkout.

HerMammy · 24/11/2023 19:18

This is ridiculous and not the procedure EVRI direct the shops to follow, parcels are meant to be securely stored and not accessible to the public, each parcel
must be scanned out to the recipient.
I'd be contacting EVRI about this.

Badbadbunny · 24/11/2023 19:25

AllAroundMyCat · 24/11/2023 17:38

Just to add, the shop will have been paid for allowing parcels to be collected.

An absolute pittance - I think something like 25p. The counter staff/owner isn't going to waste time annoying customers actually buying things from him/her to spend a load of time looking for parcels. Best thing to do is avoid Evri!

Having said that, our local Post Office do the same with Amazon collections. They're usually left in a heap on the shop floor and you have to find your own and then take it to the counter for them to scan out.

cannaethink · 24/11/2023 19:33

This is the same with my local shop. Big box at the back of the shop. They usually, but not always, ask for ID. But I guess they maybe know me by now so don’t feel the need to ask! If it’s something valuable I can use the post office as they do evri too but there’s always a massive queue.

grumpypedestrian · 24/11/2023 19:36

…… in our Co Op were hugely understaffed. We have one person: serving customers, sorting and finding Evri/DPD parcels, shelving deliveries.

We still safely store and scan/ID parcels. Customers find the slow service a nuisance, staff find the pressure horrible.

WhatapityWapiti · 25/11/2023 17:25

Update, went back today, still no help or organisation but found the package eventually. Here’s what it looks like where they send you to find what’s yours. Slightly smaller pile than yesterday.

Evri shop collection- massive pile of stuff?

That's crazy! All mixed in with the stock, too.

I kind of feel sorry for them ... but also, they shouldn't accept contracts they can't handle. Glad you found your stuff.

Mitsouko1919 · 25/11/2023 23:06

It's the same at my local Evri pick-up point. I was astonished the one time I chose this service - I went to the counter & gave my name & was told to look through a huge sack of parcels for mine. The sack must have been 4' square & the same in depth, & I must have gone through hundreds of parcels. The sack was right by the door too, not at the back of the shop. Anyone could have walked out with a parcel & wouldn't have been noticed by the counter staff who were busy & distracted elsewhere.

I've never had a parcel delivered in that way again - too risky.

I experienced this exact thing this week too. Evri items used to be behind the counter, but suddenly this week we now need to search through a pile placed randomly in an unused (out of action) deep freezer in the shop. My item was missing when I searched (even though I'd been emailed to say it was at my local parcel shop. Currently trying to get a replacement or refund of my missing item

Needmoresleep · 25/11/2023 23:25

I waited in for an Evri delivery only to get a text/email to say it had been taken to a shop as I was out. Shop said it happens all the time. The delivery guy does not even try and deliver. If this is the case elsewhere I can see why parcels are piling up and shop assistants fed up.

Cantbesure · 26/11/2023 23:37

I've had the same experience. It took me at least half an hour to find my parcel. I never had one delivered there again.

renomeno · 01/12/2023 16:22

Couldn't resist taking a pic yesterday when I dropped something off, this is the sending pile!

jesterdourt · 01/12/2023 16:27

I prefer looking myself in my local one as after a half hearted attempt they tend to give up & say it’s not there. I then find it!

madeinmanc · 01/12/2023 16:46

Ooh I just fancy something from ASOS 😬
