Evri shop collection- massive pile of stuff?

Just wanted to sense check this. Ordered something online and it was free to have delivered to my local Evri parcel shop, which is a convenience store about 5 mins walk away. I use it quite often to send stuff by Evri and always fine, machine prints label, guy scans item, no issues at all.

Went along to collect my parcel today and the shop assistant just said “parcels all in corner” and pointed me to the back of the shop. There was just a massive pile of stuff there, nothing organised and you had to pull each package out to read the label. I went back to the counter and asked for help and was told “it’s your responsibility to find your package”!

I had popped in on the way to school pickup and had to leave as I had no time to search through it all. Will need to go back and try again tomorrow.

Is this how Evri collections usually work?! No wonder it’s free…!

Anyone seeing shops operating like this should send the details and photos to EVRI, this is not how they are instructed to handle packages

I’m still quite tempted to actually- do you work for Evri or something?

Thinking back, what really got my goat was the way the guy just shrugged and said “It’s your responsibility to find your package”. If he’d said “I’m really sorry but we’re overwhelmed and short staffed, would you mind looking for it yourself” I might have been more understanding. The implication was that this was how it was supposed to be and I was imposing by asking for help.

And whose responsibility is it to make sure packages don’t get nicked?

I don’t think theft is a huge issue to be honest. At least, no bigger than the risk of anything being nicked off a shop shelf. The shop can still see people going out without scanning. It’s the disorganisation and inconvenience.

Ours is a different system but it’s worse.
they have one giant tall cupboard behind the counter which they shove everything in top to bottom in no order, alphabetical or otherwise.
to obtain your parcel you have to ask at the counter, where the single cashier will huff and puff A LOT and ask where it’s from. If it’s vinted, she gets particularly furious (unrecognisable packaging) and makes a dramatic display of pulling the stack onto the floor and hunting through it while a massive queue builds up behind you. She then has to shove everything back in to the cupboard when she’s done.
Don’t evri do checks of any of the facilities that carry their name/ service? It’s ridiculous.
