What would you think if your gardener sent this message to all their clients?

"Hi all, just to let you know a new service I'm offering -

Poo picking - Happy to clean up after your dog before I start work
£15 first 1-15min
£1per min after that

Thanks!"

This follows an incident on Monday where they got dog poo sprayed all over them whilst strimming a garden that hadn't been poo-picked (as previously requested) before they started work. They had to leave work to go home and shower as it was splattered over their face.

YABU - dog poo is an occupational hazard of gardening and that's an outrageous price to charge for clearing it up

YANBU - fair enough, dog poo is rank and that's a reasonable price to charge for dealing with it before starting work

Good on them!

Adropofink · 24/11/2023 07:58

People should absolutely pick up the poo before he arrives and he should definitely be able to charge if it’s still there and needs doing. How disgusting for him, the poor chap getting it all over him.

ThursdayLastWeek · 24/11/2023 07:58

I imagine the clients will pick up the poo themselves. What a shame they have to be threatened into basic courtesy.

puppymagic · 24/11/2023 07:59

Might help motivate them to pick up the poo before the gardener comes. Like they should.

Boredatthemoment · 24/11/2023 07:59

My friend does garden work and that’s something he complains about a lot with some of his customers. I think that’s a great idea.
Which reminds me, I have to go poo picking today.

scrivette · 24/11/2023 07:59

Fair enough, if people can't be bothered to pick up their dog poo they should not expect others to do it for them, unless they are paid.

Are you the gardener?

margotrose · 24/11/2023 07:59

It's fine.

I also think if the gardener turns up to find the garden covered in poo then he should either pick it up and charge accordingly, or refuse to do the job and charge the customer for their wasted time.

Ohtobetwentytwo · 24/11/2023 07:59

I would just drop that client if I was the gardener.

PosteriorPosterity · 24/11/2023 07:59

I wouldn’t think anything - all my dog poo has been picked up so it doesn’t bother me what he charges other people.

kneehightoacat · 24/11/2023 08:00

Im furious on your gardners behalf

£15 is not enough imo

Wild animal poo is an occupational hazard

Domestic pet poo: 100% no

wesurecouldstandgladioli · 24/11/2023 08:00

Who are these disgusting clients who think dog poo splattered on face is an occupational hazard?

Money clearly doesn’t buy class.

Hiddenvoice · 24/11/2023 08:00

Disgusting that someone has left it for him but understandable if a one off mistake.

Don’t blame him for charging and I guess some people might not find it as easy to go and pick up after their dog so it’s a good idea.

Towerofsong · 24/11/2023 08:00

Can't vote on the chat app, but YANBU

That is vile and the owners should sort it. I mean, people wouldn't poo in the bath before a cleaner comes round, would they?

puppygalore · 24/11/2023 08:00

How disgusting they hadn't already picked up the poo! Good on the gardener for sending that, if the client has genuine reasons for being unable to pick up after their dog then they might be happy to pay for the service. If they are just lazy it's a good reminder to them to sort it.

Did the gardener also discuss with the client what had happened?

Macaroni46 · 24/11/2023 08:01

I think he's absolutely right. Dog poo is revolting and I wouldn't want to work in a garden with shit all over it. Owners should pick up after their animals or not employ a gardener. Yuck!

DoggyDooDooDoo · 24/11/2023 08:02

I am neither the gardener nor the client btw. I'm asking on behalf of the gardener, who has sent the message but is now worrying in case it isn't a fair amount to charge!

My brother’s business does garden maintenance. He informs all clients dog poo must be cleared prior to visit. Staff call him if it is not and he tells them to leave. Customers informed, and billed as normal. Obviously if there is one odd poop missed thats ok, but some folk are rank and never clear it.

TheGoogleMum · 24/11/2023 08:03

I think it's fine t5k refuse to work until all poo is removed or charge for removal services

MitchellMummy · 24/11/2023 08:03

Fair enough. A highish price to persuade people to pick up themselves. Gardener should probably have a look round though before starting work, in their own interests. If I was the gardener I'd probably charge if there was loads, but if basically clear and one was missed then I'd probably not. But guess I'm thinking about my garden in my semi-detached town garden, not a massive 1 acre garden!

FUPAgirl · 24/11/2023 08:04

Op I think it's really fair because the point really is to encourage customers to do it themselves- good on that gardener

MarleyandMarleyWoo · 24/11/2023 08:04

Completely fair.

Thehop · 24/11/2023 08:05

We use a dog poo service. They pick all the poo up, then disinfect the garden with pet friendly stuff afyer.

gardener is cheaper, and seems a good idea to offer of you don't have a dog poo fairy nearby.

DoggyDooDooDoo · 24/11/2023 08:05

FUPAgirl · 24/11/2023 08:04

Yes, the gardener would really rather never have to do it, and this is the amount of money they have decided they would make them feel ok about doing it! The idea really is for clients to do it themselves so the price is meant to be a bit of a deterrent really.

Well this has cheered me up no end this morning.
Words fail me. You lot are nuts.
But best of all I shall be singing "money can't buy you class" thanks to the Countess 🤣🤣🤣

Heloo · 24/11/2023 08:07

disgusting behaviour of clients! I’d spell it out in less amusing terms! Unless he’s genuinely pleased to add this service. Poor bloke.

I’d put it like this, but then I’m not a gardener so I’m probably not so friendly ;-)

Owing to health and safety issues, please ensure your garden is clear of dog faeces. I will otherwise be charging to clean up after your dog (£15 for 15 minutes; £30 for half an hour). Many thanks!
