Did your shoe size change in pregnancy?!

Can’t decide whether or not to splurge on a nice pair of boots. They are £100 which isn’t money I’d spend lightly as I usually like my footwear to last for years

I have however heard that some people’s shoe sizes change in later stages of pregnancy and never go back! Did this happen for you?! I might be less inclined to purchase if so.

YABU - no, my shoe size stayed the same
YANBU - I went up by at least half a size!

I went from a 5 to a 6 and unfortunately they never went back to their old size.

Peccary · 23/11/2023 22:30

Another one who now needs wide fit in shoes and boots, sorry! Size stayed the same though

NotBloodyCovid · 23/11/2023 22:31

Had to go up a size in work shoes#fatfeet😀

SnapdragonToadflax · 23/11/2023 22:34

Mine got wider rather than longer, I can't wear any of my shoes that were a bit narrow now and wide-fit are most comfy (although I can still wear non wide fit). It's like my toes spread out and never went back.

Bangerwheel · 23/11/2023 22:35

I went from 4 to 5 at 40... and never went back. Irritating.

NoTango · 23/11/2023 22:36

My feet are actually now a size smaller than before I had kids 😂

selfishjeanss · 23/11/2023 22:37

From a 5 to a 6 .. DD is 23 now and I’m still a size 6

weegiemum · 23/11/2023 22:40

Every time!

I already had size 9s (very big for a girl, I am 5'9" but even so) and they went up a half size every time so I'm now a 10/12 or 11. Luckily I like men's converse!

Squirrelsonthescaffolding · 23/11/2023 22:42

Went from a 5 to 6, never went back

NoHaudinMaWheest · 23/11/2023 22:43

Mine didn't get longer but did get broader with both pregancies. They remained wider and as I already had wide feet it has made buying shoes very difficult especially as I now have arthritis in the mix.

TokyoSushi · 23/11/2023 22:44

Yes, 4 to a 5, never went back!

loadypoady · 23/11/2023 22:47

I went from a size 6 to 7 in pregnancy and they have stayed the same.
I remember discussing with another new Mum on the maternity ward and her feet has gained a size also. I lost my pregnancy weight but my feet didn’t reduce size.

Chocolatewolf · 23/11/2023 22:49

Went from 6 to a 7 and stayed there.

853ax · 23/11/2023 22:51

I always thought it was because I spent so much time at home bare foot during maternity leave that feet got wider, and minimal chance after to wear nice narrow shoes (heels) 😂
Never had an issue with swollen feet during pregnancy

Fidgety31 · 23/11/2023 22:53

Mine went down from a 5 to a 4.
that was 14yrs ago so don’t think they gonna change back now !

amillionglowingstars · 23/11/2023 22:57

I’m in the minority but my feet are slightly smaller post pregnancy.

bluechameleon · 24/11/2023 18:40

Yes, half a size and never went back

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 24/11/2023 18:51

Went from a 7 to an 8. Also totally forgotten this had happened! Still an 8 which is annoying as my feet were big enough as it was.

stargirl1701 · 24/11/2023 18:54

I went from a 5 to a 6.

Wellhellooooodear · 24/11/2023 18:55

Mine didn't but I know others who have so it's definitely a thing

RainbowUtensils · 24/11/2023 21:30

I used to be a 3 or 4 depending on the shoe, but can't fit in any of my 3s now, and am occasionally a 5

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 24/11/2023 22:30

Yes but they were huge afterwards, within a fortnight, I seem to remember.

tunainatin · 24/11/2023 22:33

I went up a shoe size each pregnancy, good job I only had 2 children.

LegoDeathTrap · 24/11/2023 22:37

Yes, permanently.

Your body produces a hormone called relaxin before birth, which loosens the tendons. The purpose of that is to help the pelvic bones swivel slightly (2-3 degrees) in birth and open the birth canal. The side effects are that you might have sharp pain deep in the pelvis during pregnancy (obv very worrying), that you are much more likely to get injured doing sports during pregnancy, and that your hands / feet all go softer and squishier exactly at the time when your weight goes up and presses on your feet. Hence thw slight collapse in the arc of the foot, which makes your feet bigger and wider.

I went up by about 0.5 a size. Didn’t notice it foe boots, trainers, casual shoes, but did for heels, running shoes, climbing’s shoes wjoch were all more fitted to begin with.

Labradeedle · 24/11/2023 22:42

I went from a 7 to 7.5 - 8 (depending on brand) .. my youngest 'baby' is 14 years old now so I figure it's permanent 🤷‍♀️
