Mussels in white wine for a child?

Divinespark · 23/11/2023 09:11

Would you serve mussels in white wine to a nearly 11 year old? Strange question, but the child in question likes mussels, occasionally, the mussels in butter was supposed to be delivered but got the white wine instead lol.

Yes I would. The alcohol content would be too small to be any issue at all.

Jumbalya0367 · 23/11/2023 09:12

They’ll be totally fine

DisquietintheRanks · 23/11/2023 09:12

Yes why on earth not?

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 23/11/2023 09:12

Absolutely

x2boys · 23/11/2023 09:13

Yes if they like them.

KaiserChefs · 23/11/2023 09:13

I'm not sure which way the voting is but if they like mussels the rest is a non-issue.

BrimfulOfMash · 23/11/2023 09:13

The alcohol evaporated in cooking.

NeedToChangeName · 23/11/2023 09:14

Depends if wine is added at the beginning (and alcohol burned off) or added at the end (and alcohol still there)

mouthgoingsouth · 23/11/2023 09:14

Of course. It was one of my kid's birthday meal of choice when 7. No alcohol remains after cooking. Very healthy and tasty meal.

KatBurglar · 23/11/2023 09:15

Perfectly fine to serve a child.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 23/11/2023 09:15

Yes. My son loves this. I use wine in quite alot of the dishes I cook so hes had wine in food from being fairly little.

Cnidarian · 23/11/2023 09:15

Sure if they'd eat it! The alcohol cooks off anyway

IndecentFeminist · 23/11/2023 09:16

Totally fine

SharonEllis · 23/11/2023 09:16

Perfectly fine. Lucky kid, good taste!

JaniceJanice · 23/11/2023 09:16

Yep definitely, the alcohol will cook off.

10HailMarys · 23/11/2023 09:17

I don’t understand why this would be a problem?

There’s no reason a child can’t eat mussels.

If the wine is the issue, the amount of wine in their portion would have been very small and most of the alcohol would have evaporated during cooking. Loads of sauces and things have booze in them and you probably wouldn’t even be told about it in a restaurant unless you asked.

Also, they’re 11. An 11-year-old can eat exactly the same things as an adult. So I’m a bit confused as to what you think might be wrong?!

Dweetfidilove · 23/11/2023 09:17

Absolutely fine! Child has good taste too 😊

Moredarkchocolateplease · 23/11/2023 09:18

Yes. My DC both loved mussels and would eat them cooked in white wine when they were much younger than this.

You put red wine in bolognaise, it's the same thing.

PinkRoses1245 · 23/11/2023 09:18

I don't know why you'd even question it? Surely it's the child's choice.

DuploTrain · 23/11/2023 09:19

You say it’s being delivered.. so I’m assuming it’s ready made? In which case it will have practically no alcohol in it anyway.

If you were cooking it fresh it would have a bit more alcohol in (it doesn’t all evaporate) but it would still be fine.

KVick · 23/11/2023 09:19

Yes, why not? They're delicious! The alcohol content in the small amount of wine used to steam the mussels cooks off when heated and you're left with the floral notes and citrus aromas.....

RedToothBrush · 23/11/2023 09:20

If they like it, why not. Alcohol doesn't survive heat.

woopdedoodle · 23/11/2023 09:20

I've cooked with wine all my children's life. Even if the alcohol hasn't evaporated fully it's not going to hurt.

However yesterday I was given a sherry trifle that actually made me worry about driving! But nothing from a shop is going to be like that.

Divinespark · 23/11/2023 09:21

Thank you !

Yes I would. The alcohol in the wine evaporates when the sauce is made.
