Every day I walk past this JD advertisement and every day it makes me feel a bit depressed at the idea that shorter days are good because you can start drinking earlier (I’m sure JD would argue that the “good part” is supposed to be socialising with friends but it’s an ad for JD so…)

Just wondered if other people saw it like this.

YANBU- yes, what a sad ad
YABU- no, it means something else/you’re overthinking/etc

i don’t think it’s a “sad” ad, no.

i do think it’s stuck in a time warp though and much more suited to 20 years ago than today

Yeah I see what they're trying to do, and for some people it'll be a funny idea that makes them smile, for others it might not be so helpful.

When you give up alcohol you realise it is EVERYWHERE in our culture. Ads, posters, in films and TV, it's part of every occasion and social event and most people assume that everyone drinks.

If you don't drink for religious or health reasons it must be annoying enough, if you don't drink because of addiction, it's drip drip torture! Why is alcohol advertising permitted so abundantly?

I mean I know why, but still.

As someone who lives with an alcoholic, these type of ads really upset me.

YABU for saying you're "a bit depressed" by the ad when actually you just disapprove.

Like being "a bit OCD".

And @idealgift is right, younger people don't seem to drunk as much as they did in the past. That picture could be from my student days so maybe they're aiming to recapture that nostalgia for older people?

Drink-* not drunk
