To feel old?

At work today someone did a team quiz on (what I thought was) pop culture music from naughties. However younger people at work eg early 20s didn’t get many of the answers eg Coldplay, girls aloud etc. aibu to feel old that things I lived through and thought were common knowledge, just isn’t?

I remember fainting* when a younger (hadn't realised quite how much younger) colleague told me that Princess Diana's death happened before said colleague was born.

*slight exaggeration, my jaw may have dropped open slightly.

How old are you? I'm 34 and guessing you're in your thirties too. Yanbu generally I feel young but every so often stuff like this crops up! Like trying to explain that when I was a kid it was landlines and no smartphones, younger people are genuinely blindsided by this!

This happened to me too, when we were talking about the Queen’s death last year & I said it would be similar to when Diana died - hadn’t occurred to me that two of my team were born after that 💀💀A bit of a shock to the system!

@MrsRetriever I get freaked out that there are fully functioning adults with careers etc who were born after the millennium!! I was ten then and remember the fireworks.

I was a fully functioning and working adult in the millennium 😱

Well my FIL who is 86 was talking about a friend that died and he said 'he wasn't that old' he was 80. Everyone who is 15 years older than you is old to you and everyone who is 15 years younger hasn't experienced life. So you are old or young, depending who you are talking to😀

I feel old when my colleagues admit things like they've never used or seen a hole punch. But I suppose you don't need a binder when you have a phone.

hermioneee · 21/11/2023 21:12

Gosh that makes me a bit sad that they'll never have the joy of relieving boredom by hole punching an entire piece of A4

My ds just asked me how many drinks I could get for a shilling when I was at Uni 🤣🤣

Foxyaus · 21/11/2023 21:47

My daughter once said to my mother -"Nanna, you know when you were young and dinosaurs walked the earth...."

FrenchandSaunders · 21/11/2023 21:49

My DCs are early 20s and they would know who Coldplay and girls aloud are.

Make the most of it just being quiz questions making your feel old rather than wrinkles, grey pubes, groaning every time you stand up and the menopause!

Chocolateorange22 · 17/09/2024 18:56

Ah yes I remember about 6 years ago playing the dial up sounds to a bunch of guides (age 10-14) and them just looking at like WTF at me. I knew then I was getting old.
