British Gas engineer swore at me 3 times. I just opened the door and let him out. What rights do I have. He admitted to his manager that he swore. What can I Claim for in compensation.

I believe the compo rate is a fiver for every fuck and a tenner for a cunt.

Fucking hell, no wonder I’m in debt.

Dotjones · 22/11/2023 10:34

It would be helpful if you could detail the financial loss you believe you suffered as a result of him swearing. That's what a court would look at. "Hurt feelings" wouldn't amount to much.

Shops have signs asking customers to respect their staff, but if customers are rude all that happens is that the shop refuses to serve them. You have the same option, leave British Gas.

Stop looking for money and make sure you file a complaint in the correct way. This will enable his employers to see if he's firstly ok and not on the verge of a mental health crisis and secondly keep him on their radar as someone who needs to be monitored.

For everyone information I was upstairs while he was working on the boiler. The Co2 alarm went off and I came running downstairs. To him ranting. I just opened the door and let him out.

Sounds like he was ranting AT the alarm or something? Not directing his frustration or language at you?

I'm not saying he shouldn't have stayed calm, but that sounds like a different scenario than him shouting at swearing AT you?

I complained to British Gas once for damage caused to my property. All they did then was apologise and send a bunch of flowers... 🤷‍♀️

scaredofff · 22/11/2023 12:49

Are you ok?

Thegoldenlion · 22/11/2023 13:18

Carbon monoxide…the silent killer. Swearing…the not so silent killer.

Make sure you put in a claim to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board too!

MermaidEyes · 22/11/2023 13:34

You might get an apology, but money? Ask and they'll laugh their asses off at you.

Poppyseed14 · 22/11/2023 13:39

Thoughts and prayers OP, thoughts and prayers.

Actually this may well not be true.

OP pays for a service subscription and was sworn at by a rude engineer who has admitted this. If she wants a specific compensation for this, ie three months’ complimentary service subscription then her best chance of getting this is to ask for it.

If you want compensation for any issue you need to be clear about whet you want and to be prepared to go back and forth a bit.

I probably wouldn’t bother in this case but BG will be aware that other providers exist.

LoveTheDarts · 22/11/2023 13:50

Were you sworn at as in 'you're a fucking cunt' or did he generally swear as in 'fucking thing, piece of shit boiler'?

Katy123g · 23/11/2023 18:24

Wow what a drip feed. So he didn't swear AT you, he was swearing to himself when he presumably thought you wouldn't hear him?

Out of interest, exactly how much money would they need to give you to make your hurt feelings go away?

Surely all you should expect is for them to apologise and assure you that this will be addressed with the enginner?

Sounds like he just needs to be reminded that he needs to be professional when in customers homes.

This really wasn't wasn't big deal.

AllAboardTootToot · 23/11/2023 18:45

Maybe ask your carer to deal with them from now on….

Unless you're a boiler he wasn't swearing at you. You're a bit of a scammer looking for money?

justonemoreuser · 24/11/2023 14:02

So he was working on your boiler.
The carbon monoxide alarm went off.
And you chucked him out of the house mid-job?

You realise how dangerous a situation you may have put yourself in?
