Is it unreasonable to remind husband to put loo seat down after having a piss ? This has been a problem for only a few weeks but am now getting bloody irritated 😠
Am I just being an irritable human being?

I assume he flushes the toilet, its more hygienic to put the lid down. There are numerous videos out there showing how the microparticles spin out and cover an impressive distance when you flush with toilet lid up. I would show him.
Here is one such video, there are probably better ones but im too tired rn.

This! Why isn't the lid down! What does he think the lid is for. He's just spraying shit all over your bathroom.

Women pee-seat down
Women poo-seat down

Men pee-seat up
Men poo-seat down

So 3/4 times the seat needs to be down anyway. And the lid needs to be closed to flush (for hygiene reasons) always so........verdict is seat down all the time. He needs to learn/remember.

Only if you have equal poo to wee ratio

My friend has a seat raiser on her toilet. This doesn’t allow the lid to close. She’s improvised and fashioned a homemade lid for flushing.

I have never shut the lid to flush, it's not something I was ever aware you were supposed to do until I read it on here tbh. I'm ok with it though, I also read on here some people don't wash their hair for a week and some have very active sex lives but only shower every 3/4 days. I'm at peace with my lack of lid usage!

As for the seat, it's never bothered me if it's up or down, DH will almost certainly leave it down as 90% of the time he sits to wee anyway, but if it's up I have no issue simply placing it down.

As a young girl l was dragged back to the loo if l didn’t put the lid down. I’m in my 40s now and can still hear my mother’s voice “LID!”, in capital letters 😀.

And yes mum, you were right!

Get a urinal plumbed in too.

PortalooSunset · 20/11/2023 13:13

The seat and lid should be down for flushing so he is BU.

StarlightLady · 20/11/2023 13:28

An experiment to try at home.

Get some kitchen towel and put it round the loo pedestal. Leave seat and lid up. Flush the loo. Are there any watermarks on the kitchen towel? Usually there is. If you have used the loo it is not just water is it? And that is why loos have lids and why you should close the lid.

It's not a seat up or seat down question for ease. It's a question of hygiene.

Hence the need for (some) women to invent the need to put the lid down. This was never the case in the past but has become essential now. It is an attempt for women to reclaim partial dominance in the toilet seat wars - they only have to lift what they think of as the relatively clean lid rather than touch the filthy seat.

Surely that's why toilets have lids. So that they can be shut. Toilet lids weren't invented so that women could come up with a reason to nitpick.

ManchesterLu · 20/11/2023 14:22

Seat and lid must be down to flush, or you're spraying piss and shit everywhere, so YANBU.

Toilets have lids so you can sit on them while bathing the children.
