To be really annoyed with these mums

DD’s party today, reception aged. Only 22 in class so whole class party. In total 20 confirmed. Well the party had started and I messaged the 3 non-attendees if they still coming as host was confirming meal choices. One said her sister gave birth last week and she’s taking care of her eldest child so can’t come, the other said they’ve had guests come around last minute so can’t come, the other one didn’t respond. To think this is very selfish considering the price of softplay per head per child? I messaged the one whose sister had baby with “no problem”, the other one I ignored (not on purpose, was running around and forgot). How can they not understand the cost that goes into this? £22.95 per kid plus a party bag with even cheap toys can cost quite a bit. I’m so pissed off. Should I say something when I see them or just be friendly and bite my tongue?

It's crap when people are flakey but the price per head is a sunk cost so you re no worse off, and you still had a good attendance with 17 people.

The attendance was good so I’m sure the few who didn’t show weren’t missed. I haven’t held a party before so I’m surprised it’s that much per child so maybe they don’t realise. It’s still good manners to attend if you can and have said you would. I’d try not to be too annoyed about it.

You'll come realise that people selfishly do this ALL the time with kids parties.

It makes it all the better once whole class parties stop/reduce come juniors.

I don't think there's anything you can do/say. It's way to awkward to just start a conversation with "you cost me £25"

Maybe if they ask about that party you could say it was great but that with 3 no shows you still had to pay the extra £75. They'll prob not ask though. Especially the one that didn't respond.

You had an excellent attendance. Let's be honest who wants to attend 20+ kids parties every year? I know I don't. It is too disruptive to family life.
