DH making a mess after I've tieded!!

I am fuming. Both of us work full time and my our weekends are busy with family, house work etc. Yesterday I spent the day deep cleaning the house as things have piled up lately due to work and other stuff. I felt like I had a productive day and better in myself as everything looked tidy. I've come home from shopping and DH is now doing DIY and fitting insulation in the loft. He's literally left a trail of mess and dust all through the kitchen, stairs, hall and bathroom where the hatch is. I told him he had better clean up afterwards and he made a joke about he was doing me a favour by doing the insulation and he was trying to do something good on his day off too!

easily avoided if the two of you had agreed he would do this today

You would do spring clean after

margotrose · 19/11/2023 16:32

Did the loft need doing?

I get why you're annoyed but as long as he cleans up it shouldn't be a problem.

cardibach · 19/11/2023 16:32

What @idealgift said. Communication!
He should hoover after himself though.

What you on about?? He should clean up after his damned self like an adult

TheresaCrowd · 19/11/2023 16:34

I can't see how he could do that job without making a mess really.

Unfortunate lack of communication though.

agreed.

but unlikely to be able to insulation in loft fitting and spring clean in one day

and a spring clean is very different to a clear up after trade work

idealgift · 19/11/2023 16:35

It’s only 4.30

fitting insulation in a loft is a big job, especially if you have to clear loft first

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/11/2023 16:36

Does rather sound like he's pissing in the corners. Enjoying a nice clean thing to make a mess of.

And yes, he can clean up after he's done.

daveded · 19/11/2023 16:38

What has he actually done wrong?

Stuckinarut23 · 19/11/2023 16:44

He starts one job and doesn't finish then moves on to the next. He never actually cleans up afterwards properly.i think living with 3 men is taking its toll 😔

has he finished the insulation?

Xccccc · 19/11/2023 16:49

He's doing a big important man job whereas you are only doing the the little woman's job , the cleaning.

EightOfHearts · 19/11/2023 16:50

This is my pet hate too OP! I'll always have the house spotless when my husband gets home from work despite having the dog and baby to take care of all day and he'll come in and make the biggest mess just making a slice of toast 🙈

They can always swap 🤷‍♂️

coconutpie · 19/11/2023 17:21

YANBU. He needs to bloody clean up the mess he has made.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/11/2023 17:31

I found refusing to set foot in any room that had not been returned to the condition I had left it in tended to help remind him that a job isn't completed until the worker has made good and tidied away the tools.

Eventually, hunger and an absence of socks focused his mind. Took so long that I can't remember the last time I dealt with a washload from start to finish, as he thinks it's his job now.

When DP and I are doing DIY type things, we do it as a couple, so one of us will do the actual task, and the other always pitches in with the clean up. You know, like a partnership should be.

He hasn't actually finished though

tescocreditcard · 19/11/2023 18:35

I agree with a PP who said it's just an unfortunate lack of communication really.

You'll be glad he's insulated the loft in the middle of winter as it will reduce your energy bill.

PonyPatter44 · 19/11/2023 18:36

Just remind him where the vacuum cleaner lives once he has finished in the loft.
