Can stress prevent pregnancy?

I've been ttc for a while now, I do have a fertility issue but it apparently shouldn't make much difference according to doctor.

Ive been suffering with severe stress for the last year due to personal events.

Could this be preventing pregnancy or at least making it more difficult? My doctor mentioned that the extreme stress I have could be detrimental but I wondered if anyone on here has any first hand experience?

Not a medical professional in any way, but I can imagine it doesn't help. My friend is going through IVF and a big piece of advice from her doctor is "don't get stressed".

Hope it all calms down soon!

I don't know medically but I feel it was definitely a factor for me. We were ttc for a year whilst I was in a job that I absolutely hated, my boss was a real bully etc., I eventually quit and fell pregnant the following month.
Best of luck to you!

People do say that but on the other hand women conceive in times of war and famine, so I would say it could be a factor, but probably not the sole cause. Sorry you've been having such a stressful time of late - I hope things improve for you x

Absolutely its a factor! High cortisol levels in most animals would prevent pregnancy, because the body realises its not a safe environment for a baby! Can you reduce the stress somehow? Have acupuncture, massages, yoga, jigsaws- anything to allow your body time to relax?

I am not sure if it does but I think so. Not what you asked but Someone in another thread last summer said they started taking CoQ-10 that was recommended by their fertility doctor and they got pregnant soon after. We were trying for 2.5 years and when I started taking CoQ-10 and Proceive fertility supplement I fell pregnant 2 months later. Not sure how much they impacted things but just wanted to share with you.

Stress doesn't help 3 months into a calm job I got pregnant

Medically stress has nothing to do with getting pregnant if your doing the deed. But stress in your body will possibly make it hard for you to relax properly.
