I took my old phone in to a well known highstreet shop to trade in. Aside from one very minor scratch right next to the charging port, it was otherwise in mint condition and still had all of the original films and protectors on (it had been kept in one of those encapsulated cases all of its life). They messaged me 24 hours after dropping it off to say they were reducing how much they were going to offer me because they wanted to replace the charging cable for it. Given they were going to be retailing the phone for £200 more than they were giving me for it, I told them I wanted it back.

I've been given it back with the intention of selling it privately and they've taken all of the original (manufacturers) protective films off. I was legitimately going to reference how all of the films were still on when selling it to demonstrate how well it'd been looked after, and now I can't.

AIBU to make a complaint that they've done this before they'd finalised a price?

The comments about the charging lead are interesting. Most phones when bought new, no longer have a charging lead. I fail to see how they could deduct more than the cost of a new lead.

Good luck with the complaint, it’s worth a go, but l doubt if it will get you anywhere. See if you can get an email address of the person who owns the company.

I had this with music magpie.
It was mint condition, not a scratch on it. Dropped the price down from £157 to £132 due to "more wear than tear than expected".
I wonder if it was brand new out the box if they'd have dropped the price.
I think they hope you can't be bothered asking for it back, my my case I didn't. I needed the money for food shopping.

Not sure where you stand, they might say they couldn't accurately check the condition of the item with screen protectors on.
