To think State education is really poor?

Boswelian · 17/11/2023 19:55

We sent our eldest to a taster day at a private school. He was agog. His school don't allow playing on the grass when it's wet. The private school change them into waterproofs and wellies for break. PE 3x a week. Sport every day. Dedicated specialist teaching in art, DT, languages, sciences etc. 16 in a class instead of 30. The difference in the quality of life between the two school has really blown my mind. The state school is "outstanding". The private school reckon DS is 2 years behind their curriculum. We've been told in state that he's meeting expectations. How is this remotely acceptable?

They won't. That's just scaremongering. As for the idea that Labour have a history of attacking education. That's just made up by people who are worried about VAT on private education.

So the facts about Labour + grammar schools plus Labour introducing tuition fess is made up?
OK then.
The whole farce of Labour supporting education is ridiculous when you look at history. Well done for blindly buying into though.

Labour have a track record of attacking university education. They introduced tuition fees shortly after coming to power last time.

need to go so not sure what your point is.

And quite rightly so. Higher education desperately needed funding.

The point is that some people believe there is no chance that the Labour Party will add VAT to university fees. Given the financial situation of universities and Labour’s historical track record, I don’t think we can be sure that the Labour Party won’t try to get more funding by either raising fees further or by adding VAT to them.

Well we’ll cross that bridge if it happens .If they sort the ridiculous loans system out I could live with that

It needs it now, which is precisely why it’s not inconceivable that the Labour Party will try to increase fees further, especially as they’ve done it before.

Yes. We’re thinking about uni fees now. A few years in advance. I dread to think 🙈

Just because some posters are pointing out the flaws in the Labour Party’s proposed policy doesn’t automatically mean they’re Tory supporters.

Oh wow! I was going to say this.
Social mobility died with the grammar school system....I grew up in the 80s in Bristol under a Labour council. In 1980 242 kids sat down on the 1st day.at my school. In 1987 1 (one) went to university at 18... I had more chance of being a teenage mum (I'm male) at 4 by 16. Several (at least 6 I have found) went to university after. They paid their own way...no grants for the real working class.

so I grew up in a real working class area, so working class my grandfer and father and uncles were excluded from an industry the family had worked in for over 200 years because of politics....and my local school system, ran by socialists did over the kids too...who's voting Labour now?

The point is that the Labour Party might not stop at taxing private school fees as many people think. They could well go after university fees next.

In the current political climate you aren't allowed to critique any of Labour's policies without being called a Tory. It is deeply worrying the level of fanatical worshipping even when a policy is revealed to be ill thought out and won't achieve what is ntended.

What £5000 spread over 40 years. I don’t think so.

Well the Tories already did triple fees and make loan repayments far more onerous for students, so goodness knows what more they'd do if they stayed in! I'd be far more worried about that then what you are scaremongering that Labour could do.

Ah well we’ve had to put up with the Tory fanatical worshipping of ill thought out policies the past 14 years- Brexit anyone?

OrchardDoor · 16/05/2024 21:04

The tories have also run state education into the ground.
