Johnny Depp and his Sauvage advertisements

Whatever your feelings about the American court case, he remains convicted of abuse here in the U.K. Yet I keep seeing him in the Sauvage advertisements everywhere. A sad state of affairs for women everywhere if this is considered acceptable. Must be very triggering for women who have experienced DV.

There was no criminal case, the question of ‘innocence’ wasn’t at hand. His behaviour is documented and undeniable (and not just regarding AH, I mean his discussions with Manson would have been enough to end anyone else’s career), but he hasn’t been found criminally liable for any wrongdoing. You are quite right in how you can’t argue with stupid though.

which is why I’m no longer engaging with you 😘

He doesn’t have a criminal conviction for abuse.

However, it continues to be horrifying how women supposedly support other women, ‘I believe you’ and all that until it’s a has-been heartthrob with evident substance abuse issues and very very questionable friends. ‘But iTs CapTaIn JaCk, ooo he was hot 30 years ago, oh he’s pulled sad puppy dog eyes and gets his guitar out like a hippy student, poor man couldn’t help hitting out at a woman half his age, trying to be a Hollywood old boy with a sexy young thing on his arm. How dare she not sit back and be used by an old soak ☹️🥺’.

Had no opinion, don’t fancy him, not previously a fan. Watched the whole trial while i was in bed with covid and recognised everything my abuser did and aaid in amber heards’s behaviour. Including recordings of her berating him for leaving the room when she became violent. It’s not feminism to pretend every high profile abuse case has a guilty man and an innocent woman. Which of them suffered multiple actual documented injuries? (Which didn’t change position between takes…)

edit to add - of course any sweeping statement like ‘believe all woman’ can’t be true, you don’t even need to be convinced of the details of any particular case to see that surely. ‘Give the benefit of the doubt preferentially to women but look at the full facts of anything about real people that you’re going to have public opinions about’ maybe?

The videos of her are classic signs of narc abuse on his behalf. There’s an awful case (I’ll try and find it in a moment) of an man who did exactly the same thing to his wife - he was utterly abusive to her and when she finally snapped he followed her around with his phone as ‘evidence’. She lost her children, her home and was still separated from them when she died of cancer. The most obvious thing a bully does when on the cusp of being found out is cry bully first.

We can agree to disagree on our perception of all of the evidence. Although it does often seem to be that people who watched the trial rather than edited highlights see AH more as the perpetrator. But what makes no sense is for people to criticise my conclusion, as a survivor of abuse who has helped friends get out of similar situations, is invalid because of an a priori ‘believe all women’. That’s asking me to disbelieve my own assessment on the basis of an ideological statement, quite reminiscent of real life gaslighting. I’m not saying you personally are attempting to gaslight anyone. But I will not be told that my own reasoning is wrong based not on evidence but on sweeping a priori statements

edit - i’m sure someone else did what you describe. AH also did that in the trial, with the set up of the ‘kitchen video’. Have you listened to the recording of him begging her to let him leave while she throws things and hits him?
