Johnny Depp and his Sauvage advertisements

Whatever your feelings about the American court case, he remains convicted of abuse here in the U.K. Yet I keep seeing him in the Sauvage advertisements everywhere. A sad state of affairs for women everywhere if this is considered acceptable. Must be very triggering for women who have experienced DV.

@MrsTerryPratchett although I have no first hand experience of badgers' arses (thankfully), I'm inclined to agree

Although Depp hasn't been convicted in the US or the UK, he's a despicable man and the recordings show that very clearly. The adverts make me very uncomfortable, particularly the name of the product coupled with the allegations - it's at best distasteful but some might say it's deliberately playing on the themes of abuse to keep him in an ad campaign for a product called Savage /Wild.

I agree, the way that he and his friends spoke about women was disgusting. He comes across as rancid and unpleasant in his misogyny. Why anyone would want to be within shagging distance of him i can't imagine. Didn't his lawyer just reveal some of the tactics used included spraying his aftershave around the loos during the trial?

BoohooWoohoo · 17/11/2023 15:34

Sauvage is super popular with teen boys at the moment. He's become so famous as its face, I can't see Dior replacing him.

Fieldofbrokenpromises · 17/11/2023 15:35

Lol at “shagging distance”

StoneWashJeansWithAMatchingJacket · 17/11/2023 15:36

The adverts are shit, he’s a shit but YABU because you’re wrong about him being convicted of domestic abuse, he hasn’t been.

Comtesse · 17/11/2023 15:40

Those ads are so cringe. He looks like such as has-been.

Absolutely. He looks like an old fat geezer. Uncool

Oh you had to lower the tone by bringing her into it!

@Cluborange666

please provide a link to your comment he has been convicted of abuse?

You can’t, because he hasn’t been.

Bambooshoot · 17/11/2023 15:48

He always seems pretty deranged and very unattractive on camera, plus he has been shown to be a nasty person in his private life. I agree that no one should be having this violent druggie thug as a poster child, hopefully the dreadful adverts will mean no one buys this? Who wants to smell like a grubby looser anyway?

Deathwillbebutapause · 17/11/2023 15:51

Yes. Found by an English court to have earned the title "wife-beater" on at least 12 (might be 14... been a while since I read the judgment).

He brought the suit and he lost.

The revolting wife-beater.

AboutYouTalk · 17/11/2023 15:59

We just hear “sore vag” with a j 🧐

Fifiesta · 17/11/2023 16:04

Getting back to male fragrance adverts, I raise you Lynx Africa ads.
I worked in a senior school some long while ago, I swear that most school gyms boast the unique hybrid aroma of shower dodging adolescent boys overlaid with Lynx.
Once smelt, never forgotten- in reality the girls would be more likely to run in the opposite direction…

SocksAndTheCity · 17/11/2023 16:08

Lynx Africa comes straight from Satan's arse.

I don't like Sauvage or Johnny Depp, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't convicted of anything (and I'm equally sure that women affected by DV are perfectly able to separate their RL abuse from a shit perfume ad).

Proper Eau Sauvage is amazing 😊

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 17/11/2023 16:11

Those wolves in the ad look as if they’ve caught a whiff of Depp’s meaty base notes.

bombastix · 17/11/2023 16:11

I think Eau Sausage fits him far better

RedToothBrush · 17/11/2023 16:15

I reserve judgment about the Amber Heard thing.

I have a major issue with the adverts though.
The name of the product is utterly awful.
Sauvage.... it only makes me think 'sauuuuuussaaaaagggeeee' and that everyone who buys it/wears it must therefore be a major prick. If only because they've actually got past the name and STILL think it was a good product to get!

I think the Scent of Sausage would definitely be a major turn off, if I went on a date with a bloke wearing it!

FantasticElasticBand · 17/11/2023 14:30

Perfume ads are a league of their own.

I have (some) sympathy for the creators - how do you sell a smell? But they’ve become a whole genre of preposterous shite.

Give me a Boddington’s any day. Self deprecating and catchy.

Ditto! I loved the old Boddies ones - still there on YouTube.
Nearly all ads are shite or just ludicrous nowadays.

Cocoalover · 17/11/2023 16:29

I watched the whole trial in the US, and it is blatantly obvious who the main instigator was. I don't believe by any means that JD is completely innocent of some awful things, but I do believe that Amber thrived off pushing him to his very limit, any attention was good attention in her eyes and she pushed him and pushed him until he inevitably snapped. That is why Amber was ordered to pay JD millions of $ because they could see through her bulls**t :)

Busephalus · 17/11/2023 16:37

Cocoalover - ah the old 'she made me do it' war cry of abusers worldwide

I went to a single sex school until I was 16. When i moved to mixed sex I thought the smell from the boys changing room was some sort of awful male teenage secretion smell that they were struggling to cover up. Realised years later it was lynx africa..

Yup, he's a truly disgusting man and while not convicted criminally, in this country, we can say he is a domestic abuser. The things he said and did were violent and abusive. Whether or not she was too doesn't change he is an awful man and a drunk.

Which rule of misogyny is this again... she made me do it!
