Would you complain about this pharmacist

I went in today for a consultation as I’ve had a red, scratchy sore throat for 5 days. It hurts when I swallow and I have some red spots at the back of my mouth. The minute I went in he was abrupt with me and wasn’t listening to what I was saying. He laughed at me and said ‘are you sure the spots in your mouth are not to do with all the acne on your face’ he then pointed and moved his finger as in saying I have it all over my face. He then told me to use mouth wash and said only eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and looked down at my weight. I don’t see how that was relevant. I just feel like he was pointing out my insecurities for no reason, he didn’t even seem to help with the problem with my throat.

not sure if I’m being over sensitive or not but it has upset me

Is he from a culture where people comment freely on other people’s weight? It sounds like he could benefit from some sensitivity training so yes I would complain. I’m sorry this happened to you. 💐

Levie97 · 17/11/2023 09:43

Thank you. Perhaps he was. I’m about 9 pounds over a healthy weight but I just felt he was judging me and not even helping on what I came in for

Omg that is rude of him!

FloofCloud · 17/11/2023 09:46

What an arse! Yes I'd complain about that! The acne part was terrible to say!

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 17/11/2023 09:47

Absolutely complain that’s horrific. The pharmacists in my pharmacy would never dream of treating a customer this way. I’m so sorry this has happened to you.

Is it an independent pharmacy or part of a chain like Boots or Lloyds? If a chain I’d go straight to head office but if it was independent I think I’d go straight to the GPC.

Charming of him, think he needs some lessons on keeping you horrible opinions to yourself.

Cattiwampus · 17/11/2023 09:56

I’ve complained about a pharmacist before.
I got a letter of apology from the company, he was sent on sensitivity training and it was also a matter of record.
I was polite, but relentless. He distressed my daughter immensely.
So yes, do it. Not just for you, but for the next person he deals with poorly who might not be as strong as you.

He told me to stop taking antibiotics for tonsillitis and to only use a throat spray. I'm severely immunocompromised...

misteek · 17/11/2023 10:00

I dont know why we are told to see a pharmacist, the 2 pharmacies were i live are always packed out with people collecting prescriptions! to be fair a throat infection would have been better seen by a GP.How much clinical experience does the average pharmacist have anyway.

Levie97 · 17/11/2023 10:02

Thanks everyone. It’s an independent pharmacy but they have quite a few branches throughout the county

misteek · 17/11/2023 10:03

why didnt you see your GP immediately if you are severely immuncompromised?

Levie97 · 17/11/2023 10:05

@misteek That’s what I thought but I was told to go to a pharmacy consultation. It was so busy in there too and he just told me to use mouthwash

I did... Hence the antibiotics

Pocketpoppet · 17/11/2023 17:49

I would also complain. Sounds very unprofessional and he did not need to bring it up in the conversation
