Weaning off antidepressants

Hello, has anyone got any tips with weaning off of antidepressants (taken for anxiety not depression, if that makes any difference?!) I am on Mirtazapine and Duloxetine and would like to wean off slowly for the purpose of ttc early next year. I have started tapering the Mirtazapine per my psychiatrist's guidelines, and was wondering if anyone knows if I ought to start tapering the Duloxetine too or wait and just do one at a time!

Also, the weight gain has been monumental with mirtazapine (9 stone gain!!!) so I am also losing weight before ttc and hoping reducing the Mirtazapine might help? Anyone in/been in the same boat?

Thanks very much in advance :)

Please get medical advice regarding any changes in medication. It sounds as if you have been seriously unwell.

Im sure you will get lots of good advice here on losing weight after stopping your meds and wish you good luck with this and ttc.

You should be asking this question to your psychiatrist. We won't know the answer and it is really dangerous to be weaning of antidepressants without supervision. Since they only gave you down-titration schedule for Mirtazapine at this stage, I would assume that they have a rationale for this and will review the other medication in due course.

This is a conversation to have with your psychiatrist, not random internet strangers.

Please please speak to your gp .I had antidepressants swapped to allow me to do a planned reduction more easily. I've now been off them a couple of yrs. I'm sure I would have failed if I had tried to go this alone .Good luck and get support

I took mirtazipine for a while and literally wanted to eat the furniture. Shame - as it's a great antidepressant. I would talk to your doc about how to taper off both. Good luck!
