To ask how to get the blonde back?

My hair was balayaged, has been for 3 years. I put a no ammonia box dye on the weekend its dark brown😭😭😭
I regret it so much, does anybody know if I could put a blonde hair dyed on top and hope it covers? Or is this a job for a professional. I've never done blonde or bleach myself always had a hairdresser do it.
Going out Saturday so wanted to kind of sort it before then but dont want to send my hair green or ginger. Any advice please?

Scott Cornwall Colour Before should strip it, it's about £12 in boots.. be warned it may not get back to exactly what it was before though!

ThereIsNoTomorrow · 15/11/2023 22:40

@Alicehatter I will do some research now on this, thanks

I'd really recommend a hairdresser. The colour remove things can be great to use before colouring again but it's likely to leave you with a fair amount of ginger tones cos you dyed over bleached hair. It might be fine, but it really might not

Putting blonde dye over the top of the brown won't do anything as they are mainly pigments rather than bleach, so little to no lift.

I did this. Total regret.

I went to my hairdresser and apologised 😂 and she corrected it but took a couple of trips to get it back to my lovely blonde

NoUseForAName · 15/11/2023 23:09

Colour b4 will remove the colour but will strip it to a copper tone, you would then have to dye it again as it won't take you back to what you had underneath. you won't get a blonde unless you bleached the lot, which I wouldnt recommend. You can't put a blonde dye over brown it doesn't work like that. You are best seeing a hairdresser.

Could I use the colour stripper and then put a bright blonde box straight on or do you think it would go funny?

It really is quite hit and miss. Doesn't work the same on everyone's hair. Some people get great results, some people end up with stripey hair. I'd recommend a hairdresser at this stage.

I’ve used the live xl below after dying my hair dark brown. It went a Slim Shady blonde 🤣 but I used a toner over the top from Superdrug also& it evened out lovely 😊

To ask how to get the blonde back?
SurelySmartie · 16/11/2023 00:53

Colour B4 or Decolour work well and will remove any dye that’s been added to your hair, unfortunately including any toner or tints that were used to control or create the the bleached blonde parts.

So you may end up with all the dark brown removed, but the blond bits that are brought back will likely be quite brassy or at worst - orangey.
So you’ll need something to cancel that out like a blonde shade or blue or purple toner. Depends what you’re left with.
Boots/ Superdrug do sell some of these products in the diy blonde ranges, but you’d be taking a risk and could get in a mess.

SurelySmartie · 16/11/2023 00:59

It worked ok ish for me I used colour b4 then a champagne blond Demi permanent to take out all the yellow. No one thought it looked bad or even guessed I’d done it myself. Wasn’t perfect though.

Hearmenow23 · 16/11/2023 04:12

Accept your dark brown hair for Saturday! Don't mess with it at home. You will need to see a hairdresser. The colour will definitely fade and go lighter over time. Is the colour not nice for winter?

thanksroyalmail · 16/11/2023 04:36

series of bad decisions were made here! Time for damage control (literally). I would leave your hair alone and wait until a good hairdresser can sort it out. You won’t get it sorted before Saturday. I’m sure there’s a way you can style it so it looks okay on Saturday, even if you have it up?

Potentially but it will likely end up darker than the colour on the box & very ashy & dull. It also might not. It really depends on how good you want it to look & what risk you want to take before Saturday.

You could always try the remover, see what you have, post back here & get advice on the colour to for next but you're looking at a couple of days work & multiple trips to the shop. Removing & going to a colour like pink, red or copper is dead easy, that's what those kits are amazing for but trying to get to a blonde is much harder. Don't be tempted by one of those colours temporarily though as it will make it very very hard to get to a clean blonde after cos your hair has been bleached & that's what makes all the at-home solutions impossible to predict.

See a hairdresser

Why OP why 😭

BeenRoundThatBlock · 16/11/2023 12:34

A blonde dye cannot lift the brown. Colour doesn't lift colour.

It needs stripping. And then carefully re-colouring to blonde.

Agree with others, this is definitely hairdresser time.

Colour STRIPPERS include bleach so will probably expose a brassy tone. And knacker your hair.

The colour REMOVERS change the formula of dye so it essentially washes away. These do work but it's unpredictable what you'll be left with. Yes they do expose the warm tones so hair can appear brassy or ginger. Yes hair can be left a very odd colour. No you shouldn't re-dye immediately as any brown left in your hair will re-oxidise and go even darker.

The results also change over the following days, I've found.

So a hairdresser won't really know what they're working with - so best to avoid any further processes and just go to the professionals while you only have one mistake to correct!

TrishIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/11/2023 12:35

100% job for a professional.

I’ve tried this and deeply regretted it

ThereIsNoTomorrow · 16/11/2023 23:49

I've decided to embrace the brunette, begrudgingly untill the new year, cant believe u made such a rash decision and completley ruined my beautiful hair colour 😭
Defo not going to attempt it myself just incase, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
I smacked my hand and learned my lesson, never again

Colour stripper turned my hair to straw. It was very brittle and fell out in clumps. It was a year before it was back to normal.

Go to the hairdresser. Don't make the same mistake I did.

A change is good and makes you look adventurous.
