To ask if the Shettles method worked for anyone?

Just curious! I’ve been reading up and lots of sources say male sperm swim faster but survive for a much shorter time, whereas female sperm are a lot slower but more resilient and so usually hang about for longer.

TTC and interested to know if this was the case for anyone?

If you have a DS, did you have sex on the day of ovulation or just before?

If you have a DD, was it days before?

YABU - isn’t what we noticed
YANBU - yes it worked this way for us

I did it as would have liked a boy for DC2.

She's a girl!! And I'm glad.

Shettles method thoroughly bunked. Even to the extent that for part of his research, he had misunderstood what he was looking at and thought x sperm were y and vice versa.

The actual science now tells us it doesn't work.

Crunchymum · 14/11/2023 16:38

Anecdotally we were actively TTC with DC1 and I know we had sex close to ovulation. Baby was a boy

No idea with DC2

DC3 was a CD6 baby and yes it was a girl (we were not TTC, it was the only time we had sex so I know)

DC 1 (DS) DTD day 5 of 24 day cycle
DC 2 (DD) DTD day 9 of 24 day cycle

Go figure

Definitely not true in your case then!

Actually we were "shettling" for Dd.

@Randomuser9876

same here

I suppose the bottom line is it’s always 50/50!

There are theoretically lots of things which are meant to "sway" things one way or another. Some theoretically down to your own "environment".

In reality I bet it only sways a tiny fraction of a percent...

In our case our girl happened when our others were boys and the difference was that my DH had entirely given up caffeine a year beforehand - where as he used to inhale the hot drinks permanently when the boys were conceived!

It's one of the things that's meant to "sway" I believe - but in our case it wasn't why he'd given it up. Maybe it made a difference - maybe not, who knows!

Didimum · 15/11/2023 06:36

The rate of fraternal twins being 50% boy/girl wouldn’t be the case if this were plausible.

sergeantsalt · 15/11/2023 06:40

Worked for me - newer research says it's snot due to speed but vaginal pH levelss, which favour xx earlier in your cycle and xy right at ovulation.
