To think a cleaner should get more done ?

I live in a three bed semi... it's v small. The lady who cleans my house for two hours per week and to whom I pay £30. There are three of us , my two teens and myself.
The lady vacuums my kitchen, sitting room, hall, stairs and landing. She mops the kitchen, sitting room and two tiny bathrooms. She does a surface clean in the kitchen and wipes around the fireplace.
Is this a fair expectation of two hours. House is tidy .
Thanks.

What else do you want her to do? What exact jobs do you feel are missing? Write that as a little list and then talk to her. Does she do a good job on the stuff she does do?

I have a weekly cleaner in our small ish 3 bed terraced house. She tidies and cleans (not much to tidy but she does neaten up the kids rooms for examples) cleans the whole house including hoovering, mopping,, dusting, shower deep cleans (x2), utility. Thats about it but I don't need her to do anything else and she does a great job.

Have you tried doing this yourself and timed it? It’s hard to say otherwise as houses are different and one person’s “surface wipe” is another person’s “move everything and clean into the corners”. Is she not doing anything else in the bathroom besides the floor? That feels odd…

Pinkpinkpink15 · 14/11/2023 09:28

Does she clean the bathrooms?

without seeing your house, how tidy it is, how many fussy bits & pieces you have displayed etc it's hard to know. But if it's not too cluttered than that sounds about right (if bathrooms are included)

Bluevelvetsofa · 14/11/2023 09:31

It sounds as though you don’t think it’s enough, so what would be your expectation.

I have a cleaner for two hours every two weeks. In that time she vacs and/or mops the floor ( depending on the floor covering), dusts and wipes down all surfaces. The house is tidy so she does not have to put things away or clear surfaces. She cleans the lounge/ diner, bathroom, kitchen, my bedroom and hall every visit as well as one other area such as a spare bedroom with en-suite, stairs or study.

That seems more than yours does and she is not rushing around to get finished.

I feel that she is doing the bare minimum.
I was fortunate that I had the same cleaner for years who did so much more and so much better. This lady arrives late and leaves early.

Have you given her a list of things you want done? If she is arriving late and leaving early then obviously it doesn't take 2 hours to do the things you have asked her to do... but if you want more done, tell her what you want her to do.

If she arrives late and leaves early, that is definitely a problem. 15.00 per hour is a good rate, so you should be getting your money's worth! I would be raising the cutting time off with her.

Our cleaner cleans the (large) kitchen and 3 small bathrooms, cleans/vacuums floor in hall, kitchen, bathrooms, sitting room, stairs and landing in 2 hours. That seems to fill her time.

Get rid then and find someone new
