A parking one!

I'll try and give as much info as possible.
I live on a quiet ish side street, it's just off a slightly busier but much bigger suburban road. There are houses with driveways for 2/3 cars but in between the drives are spaces on the road for cars to park, this is on both our road and the bigger one. Never any problem getting a place to park as like I say it's quiet.
Everyday a minibus parks on our road right on the corner with the bigger road. There is a tree which obscures the vision a bit and due to how it's parked cars coming onto our road have to enter on the wrong side of the road, this has led to a few near misses that I've seen. The worst is that a lot of school kids ride bikes home from school along it and as it's quiet ride 2/3 a breast.
The minibus tends to go off about 8am, back just after 9, off again about 2 and back about 4. Sometimes it has the name of a local pre prep school on but the sign must be removable as it's not always on it. I assume it's doing some sort of before/after school pick ups for the school.
Aibu to email the school and ask them to park it further away from the corner as it's dangerous? I'm sure it's much too close to the corner to be legal.

YANBU

Why on earth are they parking that close to the junction?

countrygirl99 · 13/11/2023 17:03

That's horrendous parking.

xyzandabc · 13/11/2023 17:05

That's awful parking. Not only far too close to the junction but also looks like it's blocked the dropped kerb for the pavement crossing.

Take photographs and email the school and ask their driver to be more careful parking so the vehicle isn't causing a potential accident

justalittlesnoel · 13/11/2023 17:13

Send the school photos! Way way to close to the junction.

Londonrach1 · 13/11/2023 17:14

We got similar with a local prep school doing the same on our road.... it's making life very hard to get out of our road. Report to the pre prep school or the police. Sadly in our case either were interested although the minibus hasn't parked there for a couple of months...so maybe it worked despite how rude the receptionist was when I phoned and explained the problem

Daisypod · 13/11/2023 17:14

Thank you all ok I was worried I was being a busybody. I forgot to say also I've seen the man who parks it get out and walk off up the bigger road but I don't see how far he goes.

It should be at least 10 metres from the junction.

rwalker · 13/11/2023 17:15

get in touch with local pcso

SayingwhatIreallythink · 13/11/2023 17:16

Could you just leave a note on the van?

VeronicaBeccabunga · 13/11/2023 17:23

If you have no success with the school or local authorities then you might like this as a last resort:

Smartstuffed · 13/11/2023 17:26

It looks like there's a dropped kerb on the opposite side of the road to where the van is parked, so likely blocking a similar dropped kerb at the crossing point.

Busephalus · 13/11/2023 17:27

Speak to the driver

It should be at least 10 metres from the junction.

This, according to the highway code. I would definitely email the school. That looks like a right nuisance (and dangerous) for anyone wanting to turn left into your road.

Scampuss · 13/11/2023 17:38

Definitely alert the school. It is also blocking a dropped kerb.

WaitingForSunnyDays · 13/11/2023 17:44

When similar happened locally, making a turning dangerous the council put double yellow lines on the junction. Might be worth contacting them as well.

Sorry ....
I haven't stopped laughing at Shite Parking UK. Thanks for the link
