Floor plan attached

I want to swap the position if the kitchen and dining room and get rid of the dividing wall do it all one room my reasons are:

  1. Bigger kitchen with island and more storage
  2. nice large bifold door into garden
  3. more useful as a family. Kids to homework on island whilst I cook

Husband is against the idea. He wants to remove the diving wall and keep kitchen where it is . But it’s tiny ! (2.6m X 2.2m). His reasons are:

  1. he would rather have a larger dining room and put a two seater sofa in there so when one is cooking the other can be in the same room
  2. When we sell in 6/7 years time buyers will want a larger dining room which can be turned back in a lounge if needed

AIBU ?

What would you prefer as someone who cooks each meal from scratch ? And as a potential buyer ? Will we struggle to sell?

thank you

My impression from watching lots of Kirsty and Phil, is that big kitchens where all the family can be together, cooking, kids playing/homework etc, are very popular at the moment. Is there some sort of compromise between you and your husband’s vision, ie room for at least a comfy chair, in your version?

Really, is it a contest between what works for your family to live in now, and what your husband thinks a buyer would like in the future? Your present kitchen seems very small if you’re cooking from scratch. An estate agent might be helpful here. You could say that you’re not looking to move at the moment but would like a valuation and to discuss how potential changes would affect the saleability of your house.

I did this for my house and got some really useful pointers on what would be worth doing.
