To think fireworks either need to be banned

Or made soundproof?
I have spent the last 5 hours trying to calm my terrified cat who has hid under my bed refusing to come out. My daughter woke up crying an hour ago as the fireworks were deafening and I haven’t been able to concentrate on a thing as it’s so noisy outside. Honestly been worse than NYE around here these past few days. Definitely have been going on until past 11PM also.

As a child I was terrified of fireworks after being witness to a horrible accident at a bonfire party. Never got the fuss and always avoided them. Funnily we had a dog who was never bothered by them as long as we popped the Archers on for him.

This year I went to a properly organised display with my young children and absolutely LOVED it. Their little faves in awe, laughing when the noise made them jump. It was actually magical. And Being a formal event I was so much more relaxed knowing they will have considered the health and safety as opposed to Jez who set off a few dozen Catherine wheels on the garden fence.

I think organised displays only are the way to go. People wouldn’t be able to behave stupidly with fireworks but also there would be no risk of people being unprepared for them. Our neighbours never tell us and we get a bit paranoid having a thatched roof.

I don’t actually have an issue with people doing their own displays considerately, but unfortunately the vast majority seem not to be.

A lot wouldn't be if their owners managed the situation better.

But regardless I suspect the majority would say that people being tormented daily by barking/dangerous dogs or cats destroying their gardens and killing wildlife is more of a problem.

But why is it an either or? I personally hate cats pooing in my garden. But I also don’t wish them any harm.

it’s such a bizarre and random two things to have plucked out of the air to excuse one for the other

Its not.

Its just pointing out the hypocrisy of some pet owners.

I miss Guy Fawkes Day. It was so much fun.

I know it’s Diwali but neighbours have been setting them off from 4.30PM and still going now. Obviously not got a job to go to tomorrow. Same thing been happening since Halloween night. My cat is literally trembling under the bed and won’t eat or even come out for a wee. Daughter won’t settle and it’s just a piss take now. Much worse than NYE. I know people will call me a Karen but this is too much.

To be fair from 4.30 pm until before 10 pm is not unreasonable for Diwali.

You say obviously not got jobs 🙄 but how judgemental, 10 pm is not late for bed to then work.

Close the curtains, pop the TV on, gave a cuppa and sit stroking you cat. Many cats cause annoyance to others and they aren't banned so fireworks with a much shorter annoyance time period is less problematic. Try to manage your cat?

Thanks @ChipButtiesRule. Our current cat is the first we’ve had which is afraid of them and on bonfire night she hid under a table and wouldn’t come out for ages after, only made worse by me jumping about ten feet in the air with each bang (hypervigilant because of PTSD). Even if you think animals deserve what’s coming to them because they behave like, um, animals - and the anger does appear to be very much about friendly dogs and otherwise unobtrusive cats rather than that fox barking all night to mate or the birds pooping all over your (very eco-friendly somehow, I’m sure) car - fireworks also affect certain people, can cause wildfires and horrific injuries if you’re unlucky or careless. Even the public ones are a massive waste of money.

Try to manage my cat? Seriously??l
Cool. Will just tell him as a 15 yr old cat to chill out and calm down as he lies petrified under the bed. Because that will really do the trick….
