Have had an argument with DH, so instead of cooking dinner going to relax with a bottle of wine?

DH is being an entitled prick! Nothing major but just always expects me to do everything and I called him out on it which led to a stupid argument. Would normally cook dinner for DH and the kids tonight (a roast) but feel like letting everyone fend for themselves and just enjoying myself for once on a Sunday!

@xyz111

this!! Their dad can feed them. Sounds like it would make a change

Children won't be hungry, seems fair enough. Just don't drive.

Why do you feel the need to tell a grown woman not to drive after wine?

So wired

Scalottia · 12/11/2023 16:23

@HouseChainDrama I agree. Some of these responses to OP are completely off.

BasmatiCousCous · 12/11/2023 16:23

My DH needs a taste of his own medicine. I have finished first bottle and in party mood! Who is with me tonight ladies? What is everyone drinking?

Ohhh yeah! It feels good. Wait until you’re 3 glasses into it and it feels fantastic. I am so glad that im doing a giant middle finger to the twat. Going to have it out wi the him properly soon after another glass I think about his complete lack of care and concern towards me. Im well and truly a woman scorned tonight.

Tea.
If you’re giving him a taste of his own medicine, is DH an alcoholic?

rwalker · 12/11/2023 16:56

Your wound up by the sounds of it pissed
and then going to have it out with him

honestly this isn’t going to end well

enjoy your wine deal with it another day

Thedm · 12/11/2023 16:58

You’re not going to come across well if you got at him tonight. Leave it for when you’re sober. Or just stop drinking after the first bottle.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 12/11/2023 17:10

I couldn't drink a whole bottle on a Sunday evening because 1) I'd be sick and 2) the hangover at work would be totally awful!!

Nothing wrong with leaving DH to fend for himself and the kids.

I am glad I didn’t listen to you I went straight up to him and told him everything I thought of the man and it felt great. He shouted back which againt is typical of him and he berated me in front of the kids so im glad I did what I did never in front of the kids but don’t worry he’s getting a taste of his own medicine in a minute

OP, are you ok? Maybe you should call someone to come take the kids for the night.

Butterflysunshine01 · 12/11/2023 17:55

Jesus your poor children sounds a very tense environment, fair enough have a drink but just enjoy it away from him.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 12/11/2023 18:17

Arguing when drunk is never going to end well, and not fair on your children.

NeedToChangeName · 12/11/2023 18:21

Not cool OP

Drunken arguments in front of your children is not good parenting

If you need to discuss / negotiate / let off steam, do it calmly

I agree! I was that child that listened to the nasty drunken rows!

Dweetfidilove · 12/11/2023 18:35

@rwalker and @Thedm gave good advice.

Now it sounds like a shit atmosphere all round for your poor children. Drunken arguments are as pointless as they are destructive.

Drink your wine, go in strike, but this is not the state to be having it out in.

CaineRaine · 12/11/2023 18:45

I really hope the “kids” are older teens / adults. Fair enough to make a stand with your DH as he sounds pathetic but if you’ve got younger children, they’ll have had a pretty rotten Sunday with you drinking in your room because your partner has annoyed you.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 12/11/2023 19:03

Jesus Christ. Your husband expects you to do everything so instead of having a rational conversation about your own expectations you get yourself pissed up on a bottle of wine on a Sunday afternoon and now are hellbent on an argument whilst your children are in the house to witness it.
You really need to have a word with yourself.

SoWhat21 · 12/11/2023 19:21

Seems to me you are looking for Mumsnet to validate you getting drunk on a Sunday afternoon because of some petty row with your husband? And while your children are in the house? Do you think that’s a healthy attitude to drinking? Or is there a narrative you’re trying to develop here for other reasons? A story about Mumsnet encouraging drunken neglectful parenting? Who would do that though 🤔

OhComeOnFFS · 12/11/2023 19:26

Fucking hell, all this over dinner? And you're talking about your "first bottle" - wasn't that enough for you?

Stop arguing when you're drunk and stop arguing in front of your kids. It makes a horrible atmosphere.

Canisaysomething · 12/11/2023 19:45

This all sounds really toxic for the kids.

benefitsterrified · 12/11/2023 19:46

This really all does sound horrible for the kids.

Scalottia · 12/11/2023 14:26

Why is it up to OP to make sure that there's stuff in the cupboards?

Didn't say it was up to the OP. But as she normally provides the main meal that day then, in her position, I'd at least be thinking about what else they could eat. Hopefully one of the parents will be aware if there is food or not available. If not, then everyone goes hungry including the kids.

You sound awful, those poor kids really don't need this.
