Dodgy ad wording?

Maybe this says more about me but does anyone else feel like the wording of quite a few of the ads promoted by MN feel deliberately…off?

looking at current ones:

”My 12yo plays with it constantly”
”I couldn’t settle into a deep sleep without it”
even “She comes everywhere with us”

I just have this nagging feeling that there is someone sniggering somewhere thinking they are slipping double entendres onto Mumsnet.

If so that feels a bit grim given these are ads for things like Lego and baby monitors.

I thought the same thing, OP.

margotrose · 12/11/2023 12:42

None of that read as dodgy to me.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 12/11/2023 12:43

Think that says more about you OP. Everything is a double entendre if you try hard enough.

FourEyesGood · 12/11/2023 12:44

YABU. I have a very juvenile mind and frequently see double entendres where none are intended, but I didn’t see them there (and had to think long and hard - snigger - about the last one you cited to see what the problem might be).

RandomButtons · 12/11/2023 12:44

I thought the same.

I thought the same thing - like the adverts had been scripted by Talbot Rothwell 😃

SiennaMillar · 12/11/2023 13:32

Didn’t cross my mind

Ducksinthebath · 12/11/2023 13:53

I really don’t get the double entendre in the second one. I must have a very innocent mind.

"I couldn’t settle into a deep sleep without it”

Suggestive of wanking.

Agreed. I can make a double entendre out of anything, but you have to be really trying to get them here. Especially in the on that mentions a 12-year-old. Yikes.

CesareBorgia · 12/11/2023 14:10

It's because they have gone for a 'clickbait' approach rather than actually naming the products, which is a bit tedious.

TentaPlayz · 20/12/2023 14:05

Lol I like what you did there😂

TentaPlayz · 20/12/2023 14:08

Get your mind out of the gutter

TentaPlayz · 20/12/2023 14:09

Nah I have quite a dirty mind I won't lie, but for these to have the desired double meanings, you'd really have to to some reaching here

TentaPlayz · 20/12/2023 14:10

you could say that about all of them tbh
