Does anyone here work at Amazon warehouse?

Sorry I’m posting for traffic as there is a wide audience. My son has ADHD and anxiety and I’m looking for reassurance/ advice please.

my son (18) applied for a job at Amazon working in the warehouse. He had a telephone interview, filled out all the forms, proof of identity with passport, etc. The lady interviewer said they would be in touch. He then received an email saying he had passed the enhanced DBS check and is required for induction at 6am tomorrow morning where he will be drug tested (swabbed).

He is very excited but we haven’t received any contract / offer of work (shifts). The original advert said rate of pay was £11 per hour. Does this mean (assuming drugs test is clear which it will be) that he will be offered work? Presumably he wouldn’t be invited for induction if they weren’t going to offer him work?

Also I presume the induction is unpaid? (This is ok of course).

Neither his Dad nor I have any experience in this line of work and he is getting a bit worked up as he needs information/ details we just don’t know.

He’s also panicking he won’t be able to do the job - I’ve said he’ll get training (I presume) and it’s a 3 month probation.

If anyone has this kind of experience and can offer any advice we are extremely grateful.

I'm pretty sure the inductions are paid but can't help much more that's that.

Maybe ask on your local next door app, there might be people who've worked there.

The induction is paid, the training he will be shown how to use the scanning machine, pick and pack use the trollies etc will be registered on the Amazon system and will get his shifts through this

My nephew worked in an Amazon warehouse. They have quite a high turnover of workers so I'd assume he is going to get it.

My nephew said it was fine as a job. He had to use a tape gun to close the boxes once the item was in. He was in a part of the warehouse where there was only one item in the order.

Thank you everyone

Why does he need an enhanced DBS check to work in a warehouse?
My understanding is that an employer can only ask for one if you will be working with vulnerable people.

Just to be prepared - if he's on meds for ADHD, a drug test may come up positive - he might want to take some documentation ie prescription or something. He can always send it on later if required but he might want to be prepared to let them know in advance. They'll have come across it plenty of times before.

I can't figure out how to message you privately on the app. Could you send me a message and I will see if I can find it? I have some information which should be helpful.

Just want to say my 18 year old daughter started with Amazon 11 months ago after dropping out of college. Not what I wanted for her. However, she loves Amazon. They have been great with her, she has trained in many different areas and has been trained to train/induct new staff. They do get a lot of bad press but if your son is willing to work hard and keen to learn, then it may be the pace for him.

Oh that’s really great and encouraging, thank you

Watch ‘The Great Amazon Heist’ from Channel 4. It’s on YouTube. You won’t want your boy working there after seeing that.
