To do nothing - neighbour

CoughForWeeks · 11/11/2023 07:14

My neighbour says that's there's a banging noise in their pipes that disturbs them and that it's coming from the direction of my house.

There's no noise of banging in my house. In face my boiler is off at the moment and it hadn't been on for months when the first complaint came.

I'm at a loss as to what to say to them. AIBU to do nothing?

Tell them your middle paragraph. Job done.

Do you live in houses rather than flats? If you've not had your boiler on from before their first complaint then personally I'd do nothing. They're the ones with the issue so they need to call a plumber or heating engineer to investigate the problem.

"I'm sorry neighbour, I don't know what the banging is as we don't get any banging in our house. A plumber may be able to help you find the cause".

Theunamedcat · 11/11/2023 07:22

It's air on the pipes

Theunamedcat · 11/11/2023 07:22

IN the pipes ffs

MrsFawkes · 11/11/2023 07:27

Defo sounds like air in the pipes.
Ask them to bleed their radiators.
it’s a basic!

You can buy bleed keys from hardware shops or on line.

The pipes in my place bang/clonk when I turn the cold water tap of quickly .

Getolderbutneverwiser · 11/11/2023 07:53

If they have high water pressure it could be water hammer. We had this, plumber gutted a pressure valve and is now sorted. We used to get random banging from it. Nothing to do with any neighbours.

Tell them it’s not coming from your house, you’ve not heard any noises. suggest they consult a plumber.
