Am I a Rightmove weirdo?

Is it weird that I love looking at our old family houses on right move and have intense nostalgia. My grandmas house is up for sale and I look at the photos everyday remembering the warm and wonderful christmases and holidays we spent there. She died 20 years ago but I just have pangs to go back to those times and these glimpses back to the house even though it's changed is just wonderful. Does anyone else do this?

I don’t but I don’t think it’s weird to do so. I had great times at my grandparents house when I was a kid but have hardly any photos. I occasionally look it up on Google Street View to trigger the memories.

No..I would love my childhood home to come onto the market so I can nose.

I like looking at the listings for my existing house before I bought it and the house before that which I sold.

Plus I keep looking in case the people who own the house I grew up in put it on the market. I'd love to see how that's changed, it wasn't great when we had it as it was the 70s and we didn't have much cash to spend on decoration or new carpets/curtains. Plus my mum's idea of tasteful décor didn't (and still doesn't) tally with mine.

I used to stay at my Grandparents house in the school holidays when my parents were struggling with juggling work.

It's since been bought by a family. They've put an extension on and possibly changed the layout inside.

I'd love to go in and have a look and see what they've done!

You should book an appointment and go round and see it OP 😁

I bought my grandparents house post divorce. It's nothing special to anyone, but it's special to me. Other houses come and go, this one has memories and I love being able to remember the times here.

Yes, go and see it. I went to view my Grandma’s old house. It was my mums childhood home and a place I spent at lot of time in.
It was a genuine viewing - my daughter was looking for a house. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for her. It was a terraced and the stairs were too scary/steep for her.
Funnily, I don’t recall steep stairs at all.

I do it all the time, for everywhere I’ve ever lived. There’s something so intimate about the inside of a house, it’s lovely to look at.

Pigeonqueen · 10/11/2023 22:35

I do it too. Brings back all sorts of memories.

coolkatt · 10/11/2023 22:38

yes i love doing that, our old house my sister and i grew up in is now a student pad and was on gumtree for sale, it was so weird looking at all the rooms totally different.
i've actually went on google earth, look up streets in america where i also used to live and then zoopla the street and then nosey in the houses and see what they are worth! 😬

TrickorTreacle · 10/11/2023 22:42

I find it fascinating. I put in my post code on Rightmove and it comes up with my house and about 40 others. They're all largely the same houses as mine or just a mirror image of mine. Most of them have photos of interiors from the previous sale and I like looking at them to see what previous owners have done to their houses compared to my interiors. I can tell that my house still has the original kitchen because a few of the other kitchens are identical to mine. Then you can tell who have replaced their kitchens because they're different from mine. Some even change the layout. You can see different wallpapers throughout the houses and what they have done to their gardens. Really interesting.

Every day is a bit weird but other than that no

RedToothBrush · 10/11/2023 22:57

Not just you.

The trouble is you can't go back in time. The house won't be the same. You are just chasing a moment in time that can't be recaptured.

ppppoff · 11/11/2023 19:10

I love that's it's not just me! Gosh if I could spend one more Christmas there like the old days it would be so wonderful x
