To think the new John Lewis Christmas advert is a bit shit

Apologies if there’s already a thread, couldn’t see one when I skimmed over AIBU.

It’s just not great IMO. Definitely didn’t make me feel sad, or happy, or nostalgic, or excited for Christmas or any emotion other than a bit meh.

Just me?

Ugly ‘Day of the Triffids’ vibe with nothing Christmassy about it. Ugly house, ugly music, sad kid. Ugh. Although it did match the feeling round an actual John Lewis when I mooched round the other day - it was all dated and overpriced. And empty. Maybe the triffid had eaten everybody.

I quite liked it. As I say every year though I am not sure they are ever going to beat their 2011 one:

I think it is awful-but I suddenly understood it when I walked in to waitrose to see racks of venus flytrap cuddly toys, books, carrier bags, small potted fake plants etc etc etc.
The cynical, blatant pretence that it is about anything but selling that tat is depressing.

I'm liking the Morrison's oven glove one; simple to make, easy to understand and features most people's type of Christmas. Quite fallen in love with it!

I work in advertising and I would LOVE to get to work on an ad like this. It’s such an opportunity to tell a heartwarming message in a clever way. Totally wasted.

I didn't really get it tbh even though I've seen Little Shop of Horrors multiple times. I mean soggy wrapping paper on the ground, not getting to open your own pressies - nuts.

Was it Tesco who shamed somebody for not giving to Captain Tom on their Xmas ad. Maybe they should do an update of that under the circumstances!
