Furious with Thames Water

Long one incoming.

Living in Surrey & our water supply has been in a complete mess since last Thursday 2nd November due to issues at the Shalford water treatment plant.

We finally got our water supply back to normal this morning after 7 days of disruption & almost 5 solid days with no mains water … only for the water to cut out completely again this afternoon due to issues at an entirely different (Ladymead) treatment plant. Literally thousands of households have been affected for the best part of a week.

I contacted Thames Water via online chat last Friday afternoon to report the outage & they were no help at all & then just disconnected my chat.

Our local councillors & MP have been trying to get Thames Water to sort the issues & get the water supply back, but literally nothing seems to have any effect on the wretched company. They’re not even delivering bottled water to many residents who are signed up on their official priority list for vulnerable customers.

What the hell do we do next??? Anyone else experienced a water outage for over a week before? I am just beyond words about the entire thing at this stage.

Most of the schools in our area & also our local nursery have had to shut pretty much all week so far as they’ve had no water either, so everyone’s had to scramble to get time off work or organise last minute emergency childcare.

We’ve been driving the kids across town to SIL’s for baths, I’ve gone without a shower or hair wash since last Thursday morning, we’ve been boiling multiple kettle loads of bottled water to do the washing up, we’re running out of clean clothes. We can’t flush the blooming loo after anyone goes for a poo.

Thames Water provide no information - no time scales for when supplies might resume - just nothing beyond a generic apology.

And what really annoys me is that the main stream media that reported on the issue over the weekend made it seem like Surrey residents were only out of water for 24 hours max & were just being bunch of moaning whiners about it, because the news sites couldn’t be bothered to research it properly - if they had contacted anyone local they would’ve discovered hundreds, more likely thousands, of people have been without water for days.

In fact when I first reported the issue to Thames Water on Friday 3rd November & they disconnected my online chat (after providing only a generic apology), I then called them & when I finally got through I was told 7,000 homes had been affected since Thursday 2nd November, yet they hadn’t even bothered to report the outage on their website at that point.

Aaaaaggghhh!!! I can’t stand the dysfunction & Thames Water’s constant lies of it all being fixed when we’re about to go into day 8 of this mess & still with no water.

Would you be fuming with f…ing incompetent Thames Water over this too or am I being completely unreasonable??

You are not being unreasonable to be frustrated, however, when you look at the fact that Thames Water are in such financial difficulty despite being the only purveyor in the area of a thing that everyone needs, it isn't a surprise that they're are challenges such as this.

They have paid 1.8bn in dividends in the last decade, have run up 10bn in debt and are 31pc owned by a Canadian pension fund

You need to ring their customer services and ask for compensation. Also email the CEO and threaten them with escalation to Ofwat.
