To think using my bin is rude?

I live in a typical semi, drive for the car in front of the house and a path down the side of the house. My bins are lined up half way down the side of the house, so about 4-5 metres from the pavement.

Someone I don’t know walked up my drive and down the side of the house to use my bin for their doggy poo bag.

AIBU to think this is rude? I wouldn’t dream of going up someone’s private drive and down the side of their house to use their bins, especially not when it’s to deposit a bag of sh1t.

Yes, it’s rude.

SweetBirdsong · 09/11/2023 19:32

Of course it's rude. Can't believe you even need to ask. Confused

Can you not put your bin(s) in the back garden?

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 09/11/2023 19:33

Very rude. I don’t put my own dogs’ crap in the bin, I take it to the nearby dog bin, it stinks !

A local dog walker tried the same with my bin, which was inside a fence that was clearly not high enough. I spotted her and made her remove it. Cheeky cow.

Holidayhell22 · 09/11/2023 19:34

It’s rude and disgusting.

Hibambinos · 09/11/2023 19:36

Put a note on “ not for your dog poo bud!” So they know they’ve been rumbled

Wolfiefan · 09/11/2023 19:38

Who on earth voted YABU??? Of course it’s not ok. People shouldn’t be walking on your property. Your bin is yours and you pay to have it collected. And of course you don’t want their stinky dog poo in it.
(And yes I have a dog!)

FlamingoFlamboyance · 09/11/2023 19:38

A while ago I chased someone down the street who had just walked past my (freshly emptied) wheelie bin on the path, I hadn't gotten round to putting it away yet, and put a bag of dog poo in there a they passed.

Would have exploded all over the bottom of my bin with the weight of our rubbish over the next 2 weeks.

Luckily I was stood dusting the window sill and saw them do it so went straight out.

The cheek of some people, she even laughed at me for following her down the road to return it.

MonsteraMama · 09/11/2023 19:39

I don't think it'd be that rude if it was a crisp packet or something, better than littering, but putting a bag of shit in someone else's bin is grotty.

justalittlesnoel · 09/11/2023 19:40

That's horrible!! They actually walked down your drive and past your house?! CF of the top order.

Did you get a good look at them? If on CCTV a cheeky share of the video might help, if not and you spot them again you need to chase them away 😂

NosyJosie · 09/11/2023 19:40

Well yes, I could in principle do that but I don’t want to keep my bins in the garden as it’s lovely and they would also be a security risk as it would be easy do use them as a step up for breaking into my house.

Me I couldn't get worked up about this. It's a bin, someone used it to put a few metric cm of rubbish in 🤷🏻‍♀️

NosyJosie · 09/11/2023 19:47

To answer the question re CCTV - I have cctv and security lighting as I am nervous for a number of reasons (and also why I wouldn’t post it on the neighbourhood pages) - this feels intrusive just by the act of walking onto my property. I can understand if it was kerbside but walking 4-5 metres up my drive itself seems weird.

You can buy stickers requesting no poo in your bin. I am tempted because it might mean I don't have to nip out as soon as mine is emptied and move it. Have had poo bags dropped in and rubbish on top and the stink was disgusting.

I have also thought about getting a gravity lock.

Maybe something like that would work for you.

MindTheAbyss · 09/11/2023 20:20

So rude. Those little bags fall to the bottom of the bin, squish flat and then don’t fall out when the bins are emptied into the truck, leaving you to deal with them. Putting poo bags into somebody’s wheelie bin is about the same as just leaving them in your front garden!

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/11/2023 20:22

I wouldn't put my dog poo bag in someone else's bin.
