Left items in a hotel room AIBU

If items are left in a hotel room how would you expect payment to be taken to cover the cost of postage?
I have been asked to provide my card details including 3 digit secure code - which they record in a book on reception and return to the safe after they have returned the item. I have obvious concerns about this but am happy to pay postage for the return of the items.
Is there another way I can send payment or AIBU to not want my details recording this way? It seems pretty risky to have my full name, credit card details and address stored together this way!

I wonder if it's it possible to find out the courier etc they'd be using and pay through them

Sign up for a Revoult card or similar. They have the option of setting up a one time card number.

When I worked for a large hotel chain we asked guests to send a stamped addressed envelope to return lost property. If it was something valuable the guest usually arranged for a courier to pick it up.

We were not allowed to take card details over the phone.

If I could get a decent guess at size/weight of parcel then I'd just buy the postage on Royal Mail online and send them the pdf label to print and tape to the envelope.

I left luggage at a hotel once and organised my own courier to collect. The hotel staff kindly packaged it up for sending.

I wouldn’t be concerned, as I would have probably booked the hotel via card, so I can’t really see the difference. I hope you get your forgotten items back soon OP.

mrsbyers · 08/11/2023 19:27

I’d organise the collection myself

Cherrysoup · 08/11/2023 19:29

I wouldn’t be giving them the CVC! A friend picked up a set of textbooks that were being given away for me and I sent her the label. Could you do that?

WYorkshireRose · 08/11/2023 19:37

No, they shouldn't be recording card details in this way and personally I'd refuse. Could you arrange your own courier collection?
