To go to a spa day alone?

SoloSeaweed · 07/11/2023 21:11

Mental health is shot to pieces and need a day to 'unfreeze' from my anxiety.

I'd need to go on a weekend day, would I look like a sad sap there all alone? Especially with loads of friendship groups I assume will be there.

Not unreasonable at all.

FFSWhatToDoNow · 07/11/2023 21:12

I do it ALL. THE. TIME. It’s bliss.

Findyourneutralspace · 07/11/2023 21:12

No!! I’ve been on a solo spa day and it was bliss. Took my book, booked a treatment, bought myself a Prosecco and thoroughly loved it. Go for it I say ❤️

Mountainormolehills · 07/11/2023 21:13

I went solo one time and it was great! I didn’t need to check if a friend was ready to leave the sauna etc. I also took my Kindle and left my phone in the locker so I could properly relax.

Pinkitydrinkity0 · 07/11/2023 21:13

No definitely not. I think more singles go than groups! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a big group in a spa.

Tiepolo · 07/11/2023 21:14

Spas are my idea of hell, but I would have said they were far better alone.

Blackcatowner44 · 07/11/2023 21:15

I'm always surprised when people feel the need to check that it's ok to do something alone.
Lots of people do all sorts of things alone, stop worrying about what anybody else thinks (they will barely notice you) grab a good book and go...being able to do things on your own is extremely freeing!

CatOnAMushroom · 07/11/2023 21:16

I've done this before. I took a book to read at lunch and the staff were extra friendly and chatty to me as I was on my own. Some of the groups of friends there were moaning and batching which didn't seem very relaxing so I was glad to be alone and do my own thing. Go for it

Wolfiefan · 07/11/2023 21:16

Bliss. Do it.

CatOnAMushroom · 07/11/2023 21:16

*bitching!

SoloSeaweed · 07/11/2023 21:18

So tempted. Thank you.

I know I don't need permission and I'm not worried about what other people think (I'm past that stage of life!)...I'm more worried about how it might make me feel and whether I was missing out by not having a companion there (some of my current MH issues are due to relationship difficulties with my wider family).

It's quite a commercial spa if that makes any difference.

Absolutely go OP. Nobody’s thinking about anyone else and only thinking about themselves 95% of the time. We’re selfish beings by nature. For all they know or care your friend/DP/DH could be having a treatment or using the sauna while you’re in the steam room, or whatever. Do it!! Sounds bliss

I would hate going with anyone else; you can't get in the zone of relaxation if friends are jabbering away about mundane things

Ange1233556 · 07/11/2023 21:28

It’s my favourite thing to do!! Been to absolutely loads on my own. My husband gets me a spa day every Christmas and birthday. Take a good book or a magazine. If you’re worried about gangs of friends go mid week if you can as will be lots quieter with no big hen dos etc.

LittleMonks11 · 07/11/2023 21:28

Bliss. I think I'm going to do this soon.

Allfourwalls · 07/11/2023 21:32

I've done it plenty of times! In my twenties when hungover I would go to the spa to recover after a big night out. Now in my thirties I book a spa day for some peace and quiet away from the kids 😂. No one would bat an eyelid, and even if they did - who cares?! Just enjoy it!
