Can I call 111 for this? 12 week old

Posting for traffic, not sure if I’ve a case of new mum panic syndrome!

I’ve a 12 week old boy who’s EBF who’s got reflux. It’s not been too bad but definitely got worse in the last week. When he’s swallowing after a feed there’s now a whistling noise and his poo yesterday smelt funny. I spoke to my HV a few days ago who said to use gaviscon.

He has slept really badly overnight but caught up a bit this morning. However he’s not done a poo in nearly 24 hours and keeps yelling in angry pain for half an hour at time then falling back asleep.

We use gaviscon for reflux (although only for a few feeds a day on GP’s advice).

I just don’t know what to do, I’ve called GP for an appointment today but they can’t see him until tomorrow but he’s in pain with the reflux but I think the Gaviscon is making him constipated.

Would I be unfair to call 111 just to see if they can help or give me advice because I’m struggling he’s in sore and crying or is this something I should wait for an appointment tomorrow for?

Could contact your health visitor for advice?

Gaviscon caused constipation in my little one. I was advised to give lactulose to counteract it. I wasn't happy giving medication for the side effect of amother medication, so eventually they agreed to give him omeprazole on prescription rather than gaviscon. So if it carries on I would ask for an alternative reflux medicine.

In the mean time can you give some cooled boiled water between feeds to help move things along? Also pumping/bicycling the legs can help.

Have you tried the usual remedies op-warm bath, tummy massage, leg bicycling? Give some cooled boiled water from a bottle?
also lactulose is licensed from 1 month and is available otc from a pharmacy.

111 will just tell you to contact your GP. They aren’t great at filtering calls to where it needs to be.

Give him a warm bath, when he’s out, get him dry and warm, bicycle his legs, gently rub his tummy in a clockwise motion. Google baby massage for constipation.

I’ve tried everything cycling, rubbing tummy, massaging. Phoned health visitor and they never answered or got back to me.

He’s now just sleeping and crying and yelling if I put him down at all. Predicting a long night ahead.

Of course you can call 111. That's what they're there for. Good luck

Try giving him gripe water. And just expect a big poop when it comes 😅
