We are complaining about the political FLAG

Exactly. As a pp said, perhaps it would be ok to pop a little Tory or Labour flag in? How about Extinction Rebellion or the Palestinian or Israeli flag?

Either you take them away or you explain what they are and why you do/don't agree with it.

It is not everyone else's job to teach your child your moral world view.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/11/2023 11:46

MeinKraft · 07/11/2023 11:37

@CaptainMyCaptain you wilfully misunderstood my post. Why market stickers to children that are affiliated with one group or another and say it's fine because they don't know any better?

I answered that question upthread. I don't know why but I know you can't catch trans from a sticker.

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/11/2023 11:47

Bring kind doesn't mean always telling people what they want to hear so mot to upset them.

Far more unkind to let kids think that their bodies are wrong and anyone who doesn't believe this is the enemy.

When this stuff is shoved in a bag if werthers originals destined fir a nursing home full of elderly people then I will stop believing this is all about targeting children.

I didn't say it was. So you would be ok with the other overt political signalling I mentioned in children's toys, would you?

morekidsthanhands · 07/11/2023 11:52

itsfinallytime · 07/11/2023 11:41

No one has come back and explained the benefit to female children.

Interesting......

Female children just need to be kind and their mothers need to ignore political flags on children's toys otherwise we are bigots.

Who benefits from this message?

If you don't see a problem with this then you don't see a problem with women and girls losing rights and you are part of the problem.

The benefit would be to those who buy the toy (squishmallows are not exclusively bought be young girls) who identify with the flag and feel included and accepted by it being there.
I cannot see at all how that is a problem. Surely we should be teaching our children acceptance and inclusivity.

Tandora · 07/11/2023 11:53

YABU. It's a colourful rainbow, celebrating the beautiful diversity of human lives in all their authenticity.

YANBU. Small children are not trans and the label/idea shouldn’t be near them. Let them be children ffs. Anyone who’d like to tell me what a bigot I am, go ahead. I won’t be checking the thread.

💯

What about those LGB people (like some of the women on this thread) who feel alienated by it?

hologramvirus · 07/11/2023 11:55

Bingbangbollox · 07/11/2023 10:11

You’re wrong. It’s absolutely wonderful to encourage tolerance and inclusivity from a young age.

What is unacceptable is homophobia and transphobia. The issues with gender recognition and erosion of women’s rights are not an excuse to spread intolerance and hatred of anyone.

I disagree. There are times when it’s ok to be exclusive and other times when it’s absolutely essential. I have no problems with lesbians excluding me from lesbian only events, Muslims excluding me from Muslim only events or trans people excluding me from trans only events.

It’s vital to exclude males from women’s single sex spaces.

We need to teach our children that they need to have clear and firm boundaries before anything else. The belief in inclusivity before boundaries particularly harms girls and women. It’s a deliberately boundary eroding belief.

Equality and inclusivity are not the same concepts and can actively conflict with each other.

No I wouldn't necessarily be ok with it but I would parent my child appropriately rather than having a snit fit on the Internet about it.

Does that extend to their bodies ? Cos absolutely they should be taught to accept their bodies for what they are and not be made to feel that if they don't conform to regressive stereotypes they have to switch .

You have not answered my question. I didn't ask about the benefit of the flag to children who like squishmallows or to children who identify as trans.

I asked the benefit of this message to female children who are being asked to 'be kind' when this results in female children losing rights or being put on pathways which will potentially lead them to damage their healthy bodies because they are not girly enough.

Still waiting.

She sounds delightful

She is, thanks. She's also delightful to our LGB friends and family members, because she understands the difference between loving people of the same sex and children being made to believe that there is something wrong with them.
But perhaps her and other girls should just shut up and be kind? And allow their rights to be stripped away? Allow males to take their sports records and invade their safe spaces?
'Be kind' doesn't seem to extend to girls.
This campaign is damaging children.

The whole site is people having a "snit fit" about this or that. Parking, MILs, work colleagues, dates, stepkids.

Maybe there are adults who like squishmallow stickers with flags on them and who would like to buy them. Fine, if there are adult versions of these toys, they should be labelled as such. What should not happen is political messages and symbols being smuggled into toys aimed at children so that parents can't just decide whether something is suitable until after it has been bought,

It's a 100 different shades of wrong.

It's propaganda. It's indoctrination. It's gr*ing.

Bin them

MagpiePi · 07/11/2023 12:03

The cat has a trans flag on it.

Rainbow flags have been appropriated by the TQ+ lobbyists and has now come to mean something far more sinister than merely gay pride.

As PP have said, why not some swastikas? The original Sanskrit symbol stands for 'good fortune' or 'well being', and I'm surprised that people might think it was being used to symbolise anything else.

ChimpyChops · 07/11/2023 12:03

Homophobia is wrong.

That's a cat and a rainbow - not sure it has anything to do with pride 🤦‍♀️

Yes I am aware of that, and I think most of it is utterly petty and ridiculous. Hence my username.
