If you don’t want your child to have the sticker, put the sticker in the bin. But plenty of kids have LGBTQ parents, siblings and family friends, so I don’t see why this would be inappropriate for children. My niece’s boyfriend has two dads, and four siblings, the youngest of which is four. Why shouldn’t those kids be proud of their family? Why Those children understand that two men like their dads can love each other, just like they understand that children (like them) can be adopted when their biological parents can’t look after them. There’s nothing confusing or sexualising about it.

Small children are not trans

It’s a sticker with a Pride flag on it, not a sticker saying “I am trans” or “I am gay”. It doesn’t advertise the sexuality or gender of the wearer.

You have described children with LGB parents. LGB families have nothing to do with the gender/trans campaign. LGB without the T is a campaign of its own. Look it up and stop mixing the too.

StaunchMomma · 07/11/2023 11:01

Kids won't even know what they mean.

You can't brainwash a child into being gay. Especially, I would argue, with stickers 😂

Woosh, that's the sound of what is really going on here flying over your head.

Siameasy · 07/11/2023 11:04

Inappropriate - I don’t want ideologies pushed on my kid. This doesn’t align with our values as a family so it would be removed. Some people would feel the same if it was a religious symbol. I don’t see much of a difference

BrimfulOfMash · 07/11/2023 11:07

The use and connection of cartoon figures (manga / animé etc) and TRA and far more sinister movements is real.

Of course there needs to be tolerance and inclusivity of people of all sexuality and gender but it is naive to deny that some people make deliberate use of this kind of imagery. It could lead children on, constantly seeing the Trans flag (under cute kitty’s chin) as fun and cuddly.

Maybe, given that the Mumsnet user base is overwhelmingly women, they are are more acutely aware of the impact of the ongoing erosion of safeguarding, single sex spaces and fairness in woman's sports. Are you really this unaware of the issues???

BrimfulOfMash · 07/11/2023 11:08

Interesting that so many PP have just seen the rainbow, not the actual flag under the cat’s chin.

To young children, it's just a cat and a rainbow on a sticker. Making a big deal out of it is unnecessary. Yabu.

dancinfeet · 07/11/2023 11:11

this is a bit ridiculous- rainbows have always been part of kids toy themes. I remember collecting care bears and rainbow brite toys as a kids back in the early 80s.

lilyblue5 · 07/11/2023 11:12

What about children they go to school with who are already feeling like they don’t quite belong?
They might be girls who feel more like boys/vice versa. Or young teens who feel like they are already attracted to the same sex? (A lot of the community knew from a young age they felt different?)
Why shouldn’t a sticker for a toy show they have support out in the big bad world?
Squashmallow are just for tiny kids. They are popular with older children/younger teens too.
They have access to the internet/learning at school. They are probably already aware of what the flag means. Secondary age kids will have peer support groups in school too?

The colours are just colours unless the kids are told otherwise. Rainbow mythology didn't originate with gay pride. If you like, you can tell your DC about Noah's Ark and that the rainbow symbolises God's promise to the world, and the other colours are a modern addition to symbolise all God's people.

It can be what you make of it.

Surely the rainbow covers everyone. Are you saying that god didn't promise not to flood black people?

It's not the rainbow flag that's the issue. It's the trans flag on the cats stomach.

AmazingSnakeHead · 07/11/2023 10:59

I do think it's weird, unless the packet was specifically pride themed. I always assumed that the rainbow is squishmellows was a generic child sky rainbow, not an LGBT rainbow. Maybe someone in design team got confused! Or maybe the flag is so normalised and de-politicised that it's the equivalent of animals with the peace symbol in the 90s.

To the people saying "it's just a cat and a rainbow FFS" - the cat's tummy is clearly displaying the intersectionality part of the new "progressive" pride flag (the white, pink and blue trans flag, and the browns and black for different races) in a triangle that cuts into the rainbow on the left. Unless you think that the rainbow in the sky is white, pink and brown, and unless you think that your kids wouldn't notice (mine would), it's not "just a rainbow". Obviously there will be many people who are happy to explain to their kids what it actually is, just as I am happy to explain to my child what the german and italian flags stand for. But it's disingenuous to pretend that there is NOTHING TO SEE HERE. There is something to see, it's not just a cat and a rainbow.

Thank you. I was wondering what the fuck I was missing, no, what other posters were missing with the 'it is just a rainbow' comments. No, it is very clearly a political belief flag there on the front of the cute animal.

Would people be as supportive of any other political symbol being on a sticker coming from this product? What about a religious symbol, still ok?

cigarettesNalcohol · 07/11/2023 11:15

@TheCadoganArms
Yes this is a predominantly female space and most of us here are fully aware of the issues around trans and womens' spaces/rights but in this particular instance we are talking about a sticker with a rainbow - the child isn't aware. It's doesn't have to be anything more. Op is offended by a sticker but it should be directed towards the real issue instead.

LifeInTermsOfMusic · 07/11/2023 11:17

They might be girls who feel more like boys/vice versa.

Hmmm....being a boy or a girl isn’t a feeling.

wensleywhale · 07/11/2023 11:17

WandaWonder · 07/11/2023 10:18

I see a rainbow and a cat, I wonder if people are deliberately trying to find things to have tantrums over

No.

The flag has been added into something happy and fun to create an association in the child's mind.

Children should be no where need the LGBT ideology. There is no need.

I have to question why adults want children involved? It's got more than a whiff of 'get them young' about it.

wensleywhale · 07/11/2023 11:19

TheCadoganArms · 07/11/2023 10:27

Several years ago I would not have raised an eyebrow. Sadly trans activism has since morphed into a borderline cult and a small scratch beneath the sparkly 'be kind' rainbows reveals a very ugly intolerant ideology that should not be anywhere near kids.

Agreed

TheCadoganArms · 07/11/2023 11:19

Fionaville · 07/11/2023 11:01

Exactly, you have responded before I could.

It is telling that most of my LGB mates want absolutely nothing to do with the TQI+ mob which they see as increasingly as an angry mens movement that caters to fetishist/kinksters and autogynophiles. They are getting angry that the hard won acceptance of LGB people that has taken decades to achieve is being undone by an ideology that is homophobic, antiwoman and a danger to kids.

QuizzlyBears · 07/11/2023 11:19

Say it louder for the people in the back 👏

canonlydoblue · 07/11/2023 11:20

No child is born in the wrong body. This ideology has no place near children (or vulnerable adults).

wensleywhale · 07/11/2023 11:21

DistrictAndCircle · 07/11/2023 10:42

It’s a cat and a rainbow.

There’s literally a rainbow in the sky as I type this, and yet I’m not marching off down to my kids’ school to demand that they close all the curtains in case my DD comes home telling me she’s a trans man.

Wilful ignorance.

The progress flag is there plain as day.

Why? That's the question? Who marketed this and why do they want to market it to children?

Mavissdaviss · 07/11/2023 11:22

DD went to high school at 11 and was one of the only kids in her class who didn’t declare themselves as trans/pansexual/bisexual/gay. At 13 absolutely none of them are anything but straight. Seems to be the new method of rebellion now smoking is uncool.

CurlewKate · 07/11/2023 11:23

@WandaWonder

Whether or not anyone is or should have tantrums about it, ignorance is not a good look. Faux or otherwise.

Fionaville · 07/11/2023 11:23

@TheCadoganArms My LGB friends and family members feel the same too. They'd achieved acceptance and the rainbow flag was beloved. Now its been hijacked by a group they don't want it associated with.

wensleywhale · 07/11/2023 11:23

Stockingsandstays · 07/11/2023 10:57

It isn't the trans flag (blue, pink white, pink, blue stripes horizontally) its the lgbtqai+ flag, which now includes bame people too.

Try and get the basics right while clutching at your pearls.

insert whole body eye roll

Why does the pride/progress/whatever the fuck flag need to include BAME people?

Pride was about people not being discriminated against because of their sexuality.

Whats being black got to do with that?
