Fed up of fucking smelling

Not a troll or first time poster, just NC as this is obviously an embarrassing topic. I’m almost crying writing this because I’m at my wits end with it all

i smell. I shower at least once a day but usually twice as I really need to. I’ve tried washing with every type of soap imaginable (liquid and bar form), I’ve even tried using no products in case that was better but it absolutely wasn’t, I’ve tried shower gels, jelly’s, creams, washes, washing up liquid, even tried cif once as a particularly desperate 18 year old, all types or deodorants and antiperspirant, roll on, cream, spray, perfume, body spray, no products etc. I still fucking stink. I’m fine coming out of the shower, and for around 2-3 hours after I’m ok. But then the smell starts. It’s unmistakably BO. If I shower at 7.30 am before work, I’ll have BO by lunchtime- enough that I can smell it when I smell myself but not enough for others to notice. By the time I get home at 6 I’ll have a much worse musty BO smell. And by the time I go to bed I really do smell.

I’ve tried avoiding different food groups in case it was a reaction. I’ve tried replacing all my clothes and pjs and bedding in case it was stuck to them. I’ve tried different materials.

I also get a horrible musty smell down there, despite having no BV or thrush. It just always smells bad, again I’ve tried washing with products and using just water only- no difference.

I could burst into tears. I mentioned it to my GP who looked at me blankly and didn’t see the problem. But this is ruining my life because I’m either smelling bad or I’m stressing that I smell bad.

for example, i can’t stay over at other people’s houses because I would smell so badly on waking up and the room would stink because of it. We went on a family weekend away and in the morning my room was noticeably more musty than everyone else’s despite the fact i showered before going to bed, it’s not the first time that’s happened

is this just an unfortunate part of the way I am? And I need to accept it and just keep showering as much as I can? Or am I missing something? It’s been going on for so long I could burst into tears but I don’t know what else to do and there’s no one that can really help. I’m just so utterly miserable with this

Have you always smelt? You mention trying to stop it when you were 18 but how long before that? I had a contraceptive pill once that made me stink. Absolutely awful, it was BO but instantly stale.

I also get horrific night seats when I am very stressed. Not hot, just soaked in sweat from head to toe.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 06/11/2023 19:07

Go back to the doctor and tell them about the night sweats, these are a symptom of something underlying, either an infection or some other diseases.

Goherdy · 06/11/2023 19:10

you might be deficient in magnesium. You can buy it in spray form. I got mine from Superdrug and cost about £10.

spray on the soles of your feet before bed and guaranteed to give you a great nights sleep. Added bonus is no BO smells. You can spray under your arms too.

I haven’t used deodorant since the summer when I discovered this and I’ve asked family to sniff and they say I’m clean

Alltheyearround · 06/11/2023 19:17

Dettol Antibacterial Laundry Cleanser Liquid Sensitive or similar

CommonOrNot · 06/11/2023 19:21

Have you tried Hyperhydrosis? And canebalance for down below?

Ragamuffin8 · 06/11/2023 19:28

It’s worth trying cutting out refined sugar from the diet and trying Hibiscrub (a liquid soap) as a daily shower gel. Hibiscrub kills bacteria on the skin and you’ll see from the Amazon reviews, that it’s helped reduce peoples’ BO.

BO can sometimes be down to a yeast overgrowth hence cutting sugar suggestion.

I also agree with suggestions to speak to a doctor again (maybe a different one), as it could be a sign of something more serious.

good luck!

Watchkeys · 06/11/2023 19:45

@Chaneltheft

My [...] sweat was so bad I could smell myself a mile off

I realise this was a turn of phrase, but it did make me laugh! Glad you got it sorted and an sit in the same room as yourself now :)

Orangeoranges42 · 06/11/2023 19:48

Sorry you’ve had a useless experience with GP chances are the next one will be better.
well done for being so brave xx

Emgtwinkle · 06/11/2023 19:52

I'm so sorry your going through this . You really need to go back to the GP and stand your ground and tell them you need help and also explain how down this has got you feeling .

Grinchesmistress · 06/11/2023 19:56

I’m not sure if this is any kind of help but I remember people being obsessed with how drinking liquid chlorophyll makes you basically scentless down there and with your sweat, I also recently saw someone who was contemplating ending her life over her smell use the Mitchum’s powder fresh deodorant and feeling somewhat comfortable with her smell again, as a fellow 25 year old I hope you find your solution love x

Samy69 · 06/11/2023 20:02

It could be that you have a fungal propensity. I get this and washing and deodorant don’t help. If you rub your armpits with either lemon or vinegar (lemon smells better but is a bit sticky…) it will destroy the fungus and you won’t smell. It comes back and I do it again - sometimes I can go for years without it and sometimes just a few weeks. Might be worth a try.

namechangedtodays · 06/11/2023 20:02

OP, try Dettol baths.
Use both roll on and then spray deodorant (Driclor is supposed to be very good)
Try black soap and Moroccan exfoliating gloves. They are tougher and remove more dead skin and dirt than the softer version you get at the supermarket

Isreal · 06/11/2023 20:03

Try aluminium hydroxide, roll on, available from chemist

Lourdes12 · 06/11/2023 20:04

Synthetic clothes like polyester makes me smell really bad. Deodorant and natural fibres in clothes is what works for me

TentChristmas · 06/11/2023 20:10

Blades2 · 06/11/2023 15:59

I’m sorry, but if it’s really ruining your life like you’re saying it is, you’d be knocking that GPs office door down.

Fucking horrible and harsh.

Siha345 · 06/11/2023 20:12

Have you tried a product like Odaban? You have to follow the instructions properly or it stings like mad but it does work to stop sweating. If that isn’t enough I think Botox would help. Unless the sweat isn’t the problem. Have you tried any products containing benzyl peroxide? You can get body moisturisers with it in (e.g. acnecide). That will help to find out if it’s bacterial. If not, it might be fungal. I really would push your GP and it’s better if they actually get to experience the problem so I would go in super smelly

Couperi · 06/11/2023 20:20

I second asking your GP to refer you to a dermatologist for potential Hyperhidrosis diagnosis. There are medications to help that. Also glycolic acid applied to your armpits may help the under arm smell.

Itsybitsytitsy · 06/11/2023 20:27

If you are smelling a bit musty around the vulva area, try cranberry extract tablets. I buy mine from supermarket. It works very fast. I have to have it if I eat any type of fish!

I also use Mitcham roll on and put it on my pubes and dry with a hairdryer on cool

I use the dettol clothes disinfectant in the prewash of washing machine

Try and wear cotton clothes and definitely cotton underwear as synthetics make me pong.

I do use dettox soap

Try and eat yoghurts with the good bugs in them to balance your gut

And I agree you should go back to a different GP

Good luck

Rocket1982 · 06/11/2023 20:31

Try dusting your armpits with bicarbonate of soda after a shower. I know it sounds like it won't work but I had really bad BO and it has been the only thing that has got rid of it. I need to reapply daily, sometimes twice per day if very hot.

TwinklyWinkly · 06/11/2023 20:35

I used to develop large sweat patches, and i eventually noticed cutting out caffeine helped.

Carry baby wipes for freshening up in the loo with…

Blueskiesforecast · 06/11/2023 20:37

See a different doctor and make sure they refer you to some-one who can help- say it is seriously affecting your mental health. Also look for people with the same problem who can advise you- maybe reddit would have a bigger audience?
I listened to a documentary about people who smell terrible although they sounded like they smell much worse! I can’t remember what it was called but here is a similar condition https://www.thrillist.com/health/nation/why-do-i-sweat-so-much-hyperhidrosis-treatments-explained
Also maybe get your hormones tested?(Diet could change those if imbalanced). Short term- have you tried essential oils?

Birch101 · 06/11/2023 20:44

I used to take pro bantheine for sweating might be worth looking at medications for hyperdrydosis and ruling out that as a reason

Also get checked for diabetes, kidney and liver issues

colouringindoors · 06/11/2023 21:03

Many sympathies OP. Really hope you get this improved 💐

WorkSmarter · 06/11/2023 21:26

In the meantime, Mitchum deodorant is very effective and green shield soap is very effective xxx

180monkeys · 06/11/2023 21:31

It does sound like this is more of a medical issue that you need to get looked into but in the short term have you tried driclor deodorant? It’s amazing to stop sweating. It will sting a bit but so worth it
