Fed up of fucking smelling

Not a troll or first time poster, just NC as this is obviously an embarrassing topic. I’m almost crying writing this because I’m at my wits end with it all

i smell. I shower at least once a day but usually twice as I really need to. I’ve tried washing with every type of soap imaginable (liquid and bar form), I’ve even tried using no products in case that was better but it absolutely wasn’t, I’ve tried shower gels, jelly’s, creams, washes, washing up liquid, even tried cif once as a particularly desperate 18 year old, all types or deodorants and antiperspirant, roll on, cream, spray, perfume, body spray, no products etc. I still fucking stink. I’m fine coming out of the shower, and for around 2-3 hours after I’m ok. But then the smell starts. It’s unmistakably BO. If I shower at 7.30 am before work, I’ll have BO by lunchtime- enough that I can smell it when I smell myself but not enough for others to notice. By the time I get home at 6 I’ll have a much worse musty BO smell. And by the time I go to bed I really do smell.

I’ve tried avoiding different food groups in case it was a reaction. I’ve tried replacing all my clothes and pjs and bedding in case it was stuck to them. I’ve tried different materials.

I also get a horrible musty smell down there, despite having no BV or thrush. It just always smells bad, again I’ve tried washing with products and using just water only- no difference.

I could burst into tears. I mentioned it to my GP who looked at me blankly and didn’t see the problem. But this is ruining my life because I’m either smelling bad or I’m stressing that I smell bad.

for example, i can’t stay over at other people’s houses because I would smell so badly on waking up and the room would stink because of it. We went on a family weekend away and in the morning my room was noticeably more musty than everyone else’s despite the fact i showered before going to bed, it’s not the first time that’s happened

is this just an unfortunate part of the way I am? And I need to accept it and just keep showering as much as I can? Or am I missing something? It’s been going on for so long I could burst into tears but I don’t know what else to do and there’s no one that can really help. I’m just so utterly miserable with this

If I were you I'd be going into the gp without showering the night before or that morning and let them smell you.

Go back to GP and insist you have tried all the usual things and what you are experiencing is persistent and isn’t within normal limits and is having a huge impact on your life.
ask for routine blood tests and then a referral to endocrinology.

Im sorry OP it sounds really demoralising and you deserve some help.

This is great advice. Try to be brave and insistent, the GP shouldn't ignore you.

Wwwnothingdotcom · 06/11/2023 15:07

See your GP as pps say, meanwhile this has been an absolute saviour https://www.perspirex.com/products/perspirex-strong/
It lasts, it's magic, it also kills smell if you use it after you started whiffing a bit. But that's short term solution so absolutely GP and if they ignore, go to other. As pp said it can be sign of something else

You need to go back to the GP and push for a referral to an expert. There are various things that can cause body odour to this extent.. kidney and liver disease for example. Assuming nothing like that the GP (or hospital) can give you injections into your armpits to reduce sweat, or even refer you for surgery to remove those sweat glands all together. There will be options but you must, must, must keep insisting the GP does something. If you have to see multiple doctors and phone every week until someone helps then do so.

This.

Keep pushing, op.
I really feel for you.

Puccini1900 · 06/11/2023 15:14

Have your washing machine serviced, to make sure it's properly heating up the water.

Dry your clothes in a tumble dryer on high heat.

therealcookiemonster · 06/11/2023 15:15

you may have already tried this.... how about removing all hair from underarm and down below? definitely wouldn't reccommend using any kind of soap or wash for vulva as that can disrupt PH balance.

are you otherwise fit and well?

Puccini1900 · 06/11/2023 15:16

Oh, also check that you haven't missed a tampon

Ivyy · 06/11/2023 15:21

For BO smells, I've been meaning to try out something a lot of dermatologists recommend these days. Wash underarms with benzoyl peroxide wash (Acnecide bp wash is for face and body) but leave it to sit on the skin for a few minutes before washing off, apparently it's a game changer for smelly pits as it kills the bacteria that causes the BO smell. I sweat a lot too op and now dd is too with puberty, makes us feel self conscious so I do empathise op Flowers

Catsfrontbum · 06/11/2023 15:21

The amount that you sweat doesn’t sound typical to me and could be an indicator of something else?

You can get Botox injections for sweat?

However I would defo return to the doctor to push for more testing.

Good luck.

Janieforever · 06/11/2023 15:26

Please don’t listen to this op, of course you need to use soap /liquid soap on your vulva, it doesn’t impact ph balance, then posted is confused, it’s your vagina you don’t wash.

Octavia64 · 06/11/2023 15:28

I have this.

In my case it's because I have nerve damage and the system in my body that controls temperature doesn't work well.

In my case there was nothing the doctors could do. (I also use a wheelchair and have multiple other issues).

Suggestions:

Use dettox anti bacterial in your washing machine. Reduces the retained smell in clothes.

I use Dettol antibacterial soap and just accept that if I am outside the house I need to shower or bath just before I go out. If I go out twice I will sometimes shower twice.

My cats don't care and I'm used to my smell so when I'm at home I just don't care.

You can get wipes that are meant for removing make up etc that are quite good for having a "wet wipe wash" in the middle of the day if you have to be out all day.

Yeah I do sweat a lot but I’m not sure if it’s an excessive amount IYSWIM - I don’t actually think it is much more than normal but I get sweat patches etc, maybe it is more than normal and I’ve lost perspective but I’ve never noticed a problem with me always being drenched in sweat during the day- I sometimes get it at night when I wake up and I’m absolutely drowning in sweat but I’m not menopausal (I’m 25) so just assumed it’s just one of those harmless but annoying things IYSWIM x

Please ask your GP for a full blood count, I have advanced Hodgkin lymphoma which was undiagnosed for at least 3 years as I dismissed symptoms such as sweating. It can,t do any harm to double check it isn't something more serious.

Zigzag24 · 06/11/2023 15:36

Are you on any medication or hormonal contraception OP? Is it possibly some kind of hormonal imbalance?

I’m a very sweaty person too, although it’s calmed down as I’ve gotten older (27 now). I swear by Perspirex sensitive but do not use it on the same night you shave your armpits!! Wear cotton knickers only, no lacy things etc. No synthetic materials in clothes as they make sweating in underarms and the crotch much worse ime. I have heard people use hibiscrub or dettol soap, might be worth a try on underarms and body although not sure about vulva as might cause more issues than they solve with it being more delicate.

kokotheguerilla · 06/11/2023 15:37

Night sweats and body odour can be caused by hyperthyroid, hyperhydrosis, hypoglycaemia just to name a few. Get back to your GP, make a list of symptoms (or show them this!) and tell them it NEEDS investigation. Best of look.

MsCactus · 06/11/2023 15:40

I think I can help OP.

Short term
This is the strongest deodorant I've been able to find: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sure-Women-Protection-Confidence-Anti-Perspirant/dp/B00CA0XDEI/ref=asc_df_B00CA0XDEI/?

Order this. Then carry wet wipes in your bag. During the day, nip to the loo and wet wipe under your armpits to remove the sweat - then reapply the strong deodorant above. It will completely stop you smelling bad.

For your groin I'd recommend panty liners which you change during the course of the day.

Long term
Long term it sound like you have an overgrowth of bacteria that smells (good bacteria stops BO, so washing more will just deplete your good bacteria). I heard a dermatologist say the best way to not get BO is to wash under your arms with benzoyl peroxide (you can get a face wash with this in - use that) and it will kill the bad smelling bacteria so long term you'll stop getting BO.

Don't wash more than once a day, stop using soap on your armpits or on your vaginal.

Wash benzoyl peroxide under arms. Wash only with water on your vagina - use a wet wipe on your bum if you must. You should start smelling a lot better with these tips.

Hope that helps!!!

itsmyp4rty · 06/11/2023 15:41

Hi OP, definitely see GP again but I would also suggest....

Rinsing yourself off with cold water after hot shower - if you come out already hot you're going to sweat quicker.

Stop wearing anything tight, I live in XS Primark men's t-shirts as the womens ones are tight under the arms. Go for looser clothing it will make a difference.

Try Trust deodorant, it's supposed to last 5 days but if I'm somewhere warm or stressful I put it on everyday. It stops you smelling but doesn't block your pores.

scoobydoo1971 · 06/11/2023 15:42

I have been recently diagnosed with sarcoma. One of the first symptoms I had was a change in natural smell. Not horrific but musty and not 'me'. The tumour popped up later. I blamed the menopause but now I know different. Diabetes makes you smell bad, and a dozen other metabolic/ digestive disorders so I would insist on blood tests at the GP and further investigations. There was a woman in a workplace I used to be at who didn't use spray on deoderant as she believed they were cancer causing. Instead she had these pads that went under the arm pits, like stick on sanitary towels. She would change them during the day, and maybe that could help you?

AdoraBell · 06/11/2023 15:45

As pp have suggested go back to the GP and push for a referral.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 15:46

Sounds like a hormonal issue. Have you had various blood tests?

meatyryvita · 06/11/2023 15:46

As someone who suffered from excess sweating as an anxious teen, I totally understand where you're coming from! Whilst your situation (waking up drenched) sounds like something you need medical support with, I found an aluminium deodorant (Driclor I think) that turned things around for me completely. A real game changer.

It's so hard when this is happening to you and you must feel so anxious and frustrated. Best of luck giving your GP a firm nudge.

MoreThanEnoughSoFar · 06/11/2023 15:48

I had massive fibroids and for some reason they have made me sweat a lot, especially through my feet... (My doctor had never heard about that as a symptom before he met me.) When it was at its worst, I went to the loo every 2 hours, washed armpits, groin and feet with soap, changed socks, applied deodorant, used light shoes indoors. The smell down below came from hormonal changes during my cycle (sorry!) and luckily disappeared when my fibroids were removed.

saythatagaintome · 06/11/2023 15:49

what material are your undergarments, Op?
do you wear cotton or poly? I also find that it’s hard to keep BO away if I don’t shave (I’m a female).

You may not be menopausal but maybe it is connected to your hormone levels

lilyblue5 · 06/11/2023 15:54

The waking up drowning in sweat thing got me. I only had this post baby with hormonal changes and it had an actual cause.
This is NOT normal.
please see a different GP.

MaliciaKeys · 06/11/2023 15:57

You poor woman. Another vote to go back to the GP and tell them ALL your symptoms. There is help available, whatever the underlying cause.
