Door to door poppy collector voicing her opinion.

One of the people doing door to door poppy collecting posted something like this on our village FB page.

"To the lady I have knocked for five years. I won't knock again, quite clear. To the man who said he doesn't support the charity, I won't knock again."

It's in amongst the thanks and wows and stuff. I suppose a couple of people were rude to her. I don't think that's nice, but I really don't think it's good form to then slag them off on FB. What is the point? Not when you're volunteering to raise money.

She has posted anonymously, though everyone knows who it is, because there are only 2 people collecting in that part of the village and she has a very distinctive writing style.

It's really unusual to collect for a charity door to door, IMO, these days, it's much too personal and pressurising, and requires a lot of trust in the collector. I'd tell them no thanks whoever it was.

And she can fuck off with the passive aggressive next door posts.

I'd post something like "Can I ask why the RBL needs to collect door to door when poppies are readily available everywhere and donations can be made by text or online or already?"

Wearing a poppy to celebrate murdering people is disgusting. No one should be proud that they’d country slaughtered innocent people regardless of where they are from. Not a popular opinion but…”

People who fought in WW2 were defending their families and homes from invasion by a lunatic. Perhaps read a history book.
If that were the case, we should have packed it in as soon as the Battle of Britain was effectively won, as the danger of invasion went away at that stage. We were of course doing considerably more, fortunately.

We also need to bear in mind that the poppy is not solely in remembrance of the dead of WW2.

Maybe check that history book again”

I know. I was using WW2 to illustrate to that OP how ridiculous the claim that poppies represent slaughtering innocents.

No checking needed, thanks. Grandfather who fought at the Somme and was a fire warden in London during WW2. That’s who I wear my poppy for.

I don't give money to any fucker knocking on my door.

I agree. I don't care what they're selling. It's akin to begging.

She represents a charity so she should be more professional

She’s a volunteer. I hate the widespread inappropriate use of the term “professional”, it’s the complete opposite of the principle of voluntary work.

I think people mean that volunteers should behave in a professional manner i.e. trustworthy, showing integrity and respect.

I believe "Respect Others", "Safeguard Others" "Representing RBL" and something about protecting people's details/data were in the Volunteer Agreement when we volunteered for the Poppy appeal.

I'm in two minds about reporting the rude old ladies in the shops. On the one hand they are very poor representatives for RBL but they might have dementia or something that means manners and inhibitions have gone out of the window and and they don't realise being rude about people is not on.

I'm a volunteer with a charity as well. When I do work for them I represent them so there are expectations.
Im sure you can understand what i mean even if you don't like the term used.
